Holy Barack Obama is a terrorist! At least, that’s the way he and his wife appear on the latest cover of the New Yorker magazine. This thing is causing an uproar. Check it:

The New Yorker is, of course, saying the cover is satire, a play on how the right wing is seeking to portray him. Catch the flag burning in the fireplace, scope Osama’s painting on the wall, check Michelle in the . . . . . . . she looks kinda good in fatigues.
The Obama campaign claims the cover is tasteless and offensive.
Creative satire or tasteless and offensive? You be the judge, but you heard it here first (or maybe second).

I think it is a rather fitting and truthful picture. But what do I know I am just another bitter person hanging on to my guns and religion….But I vote!
2 April // Jul 13, 2008 at 9:10 pm
Um, truthful? Okay….another source of ammo for people who think he’s Muslim or a Muslim-sympathizer—whatever that is. I mean, seriously I am not the biggest fan of Obama either (his recent vote on the FISA immunity bill being a major issue for me), but this is just going to feed ignorant people’s brains with more racist crap.

Controversy sells! They’re just trying to capitalize on current events to make money, IMHO.

This is just another example of mainstream journalism playing off peoples ignorance. Basically a smear campaign against Obama AND a religion, cloaked as satire.
Many Americans, easily swayed by propaganda, will take one look at that cover pic and fall for it hook line and sinker. The sheeple cannot think for themselves and find it easier to rely upon a cartoons to do the thinking for them.
“Muslim = terrorist” mindset is falling right into Bin boy’s trap, gives Bush’s war a boost, and is of great use in the political arena. There is alot of money to be made on this. Ask Haliburton and others.
America is drinking the cool aid.

Michelle Malkin has a great post showing some of the offensive, racist, and anti-patriotic cartoons from the left. You will be shocked. The post is entitled “Grow a pair, Obama”.

I guess the Obama campaign is offended by the truth. Just read “Dreams of My Father” or whatever the hell the title of Obammy’s latest bio is. I have. He’s one scary mofo Marxist bastard.
9 Rushman // Jul 14, 2008 at 6:57 pm
Truthful it is. No matter how you look at it. His Policies would be helpful towards terrorists. So the friend of my enemy is my enemy. I don’t care what religion you are. But as far as the bitter comment I said below I was just borrowing from his statement which I have listed below. “And it’s not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.” Hell even Jessie Jackson wants to rip off his nuts. So to put it frankly you can polish a turd to a high gloss finish but in the end it’s still a turd. Obama is a turd and is not good for America. It’s not a religion thing it’s a FREEDOM thing.
10 April // Jul 14, 2008 at 10:24 pm
Could you please tell me which of his “Policies would be helpful towards terrorists.” I am really interested to know. Is McCain the better alternative—someone who has been tortured and thinks it’s a good idea to continue the practice? Honestly I don’t think either man is a perfect choice. But I fail to see how Obama can do more than Bush has already done to build anti-American sentiment in the middle east and around the world. He’s alienated our allies and given people even more of a reason to act violently against us. Terrorism does not occur in a vacuum—it’s cultivated. And our government’s been doing a good job of cultivating it, passively or aggressively, for quite a while now.
As far as the cartoons from the left that you say are anti-patriotic: to me those look like political comments on the actions of people who have proven themselves to be anti-American—by advocating/allowing torture, fabricating evidence to engage in a war that is not based on self-defense at all, and hacking away at our civil liberties. You do those sorts and things and you open yourself up to some well-deserved attacks. Obama’s record is comparatively benign.

A funny cover from a liberal magazine, I’ll add it to the caricatures of Bush, Cheney, and Mc Cain by other liberal magazines and newspapers showing them as incompetent boobs and ninnies. These other subjects just have to put up with their caricatures, why should the Obamas be different? Hats off to the New Yorker!

i typically vote third party because i do not support either party or candidates, but after the supreme court heller vs DC, a lot was left open for later court desicions. this could be a terrible chance for newly appointed judges to close these open ends against the position of firearms owners. the only problem is neither candidate seems to be a supporter of freedom, let alone freedom of arms.
I am at a loss as to what to do. unfortunate as it is my vote will probably go to Barr.

What policies. Hmm….lets see we can start with defense spending he wants to cut, the move on to his radical anti-gun beliefs which by the way is proven in his record. He doesn’t believe in secure borders shall we go on? Oh and for the record April since you want to call people out. Not once did I mention McCain! Secret squirrel pretty much hit it square on the nose if you must know. Oh and what about Obama’s wife and her kill whitey ralleys? Oh and since you want to talk about Bush someone else I didn’t mention. Say what you want about the man he is done in a bit and has been a lame duck since the democrats took over so the past 1+ years is just as much the demo fault as his. Oh and thanks Bobert you hit the nail too. So why don’t remember this is a survival blog and maybe the politics should be left to the trolls on the politcal sites. Either way the shit is going to hit no matter which one wins………
14 April // Jul 15, 2008 at 10:44 pm
cutting defense spending does not necessarily equal pro-terrorism. increasing defense spending will not necessarily make us safer—it’s all about how the money is actually spent. perhaps some of that money could be spent more wisely—like, i don’t know, on energy and agriculture… things that will actually affect our lives in the short term.
mccain is the default candidate for our lousy 2-party system. he is right in there, no need to NOT mention him.
kill whitey rallies?? i’d like the link to the info you have on that.
“So why don’t remember this is a survival blog and maybe the politics should be left to the trolls on the politcal sites”—-I was responding to the post that the author made and the comments that followed. I did not come here to troll or make asinine arguments. I enjoy finding out what other people are thinking and I surely don’t think I have all the answers.

and not to keep beating a dead horse, but here is a link to excerpts from Obama’s speech today on foreign policy—-
http://www.patiastephens.com/2008/07/barack-obama-new-strategy-for-new-world.html
five goals:
1. ending the war in Iraq responsibly;
2. finishing the fight against al Qaeda and the Taliban;
3. securing all nuclear weapons and materials from terrorists and rogue states;
4. achieving true energy security; and
5. rebuilding our alliances to meet the challenges of the 21st century.

April,
How does the federal government spend money on agriculture and energy? I was under the silly assumption that private enterprise spends money on growing crops and drilling for gas/oil and developing energy technologies. Where in the Constitution does it talk about the federal government being in the farming and oil business? The Constitution does, however, say (in Article I, Section
that it’s the government’s job (more specifically, the job of the Congress) to raise money for armies and a navy.
If anything, they should be giving tremendous tax breaks to private companies for the development of new energy technologies, not gutting the Marine Corps so they can cut a check to some farmer for a zillion dollars for the little boondoggle I like to call “biofuels”. (the harvesting of which is driving up the cost of my Count Chocula)
It’s government’s role to GET THE HELL OUT OF THE WAY so capitalism can work. That’s the main problem with Obama. He wants to turn us into a government controlled, communist state like the Soviet Union. (*Note* McCain isn’t far behind…. McCain-Feingold, McCain-Kennedy, McCain-Leiberman, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera…….)
I’m with some of the other folks-I’m voting for Barr. I do believe this particular political discussion has everything to do with survival… The survival of our country and of our way of life. My 2 cents.
17 Bill // Jul 16, 2008 at 12:33 am
That’s supposed to be the number eight, not a smiley face with shades on. Dunno how that happened.
18 April // Jul 16, 2008 at 1:54 pm
Um, well—-a few things:
1) when the constitution was written the population of the United States was considerably less and energy usage on a national level was not a concern…that doesn’t mean the government shouldn’t be involved in it today—-the times change and a useful government changes when needs arise. The Dept of Energy has a considerable budget and some of that is filed under national defense, so it looks like that is something we should be spending money on… energy independence would do a hell of a lot more for our national security (on more than a physical level) than if we left it up to capitalism (seeing as how it’s not solving the problem now). capitalism has had many decades to “work,” as you say—yet it hasn’t. obviously it’s not a perfect system/ideology. see: other governments that are quite successful employing these so-called “socialist” policies. Instead of “giving tremendous tax breaks to private companies for the development of new energy technologies” the government continues to subsidize and support the Big Oil industry. So let’s not pretend the government doesn’t have a huge investment in Energy.
2) same argument for agriculture…when the constitution was written people were able to provide their own food or they were able to obtain it through their community resources. with the advent of industrialized agriculture that ability to provide for oneself was greatly reduced. we live in the modern world, where most people rely on a vast system of corporate and government intervention in order to get food on their table. this isn’t ideal, but it’s the way it is. also, the dept. of agriculture budget supplies funds for things like food safety inspection (mad cow anyone?) and rural development. when people don’t have food, riots aren’t far behind. also a national security issue.
in my opinion, we can’t keep living like the constitution is the end-all-be-all of government policy. it was written over 200 years ago for cryin out loud. let’s adapt and move forward, people. they were talking about issues that are still relevant today, but not all of it still applies. we have to deal with circumstances that they could have never foreseen.

[…] It’s been a real sweet time over in the New Yorker/Obama post comments section. Woo-hoo! Stadium announcer […]
20 Bill // Jul 17, 2008 at 12:09 am
I hear what you’re saying. Like Gunny Highway always says, “Adapt, overcome!” I’m all for that, but when you start the whole “the Constitution is living document” discussion, that opens all sorts of doors we shouldn’t be walking through.
Like claiming the 2nd Amendment was written in a different time, so why now should we be able to individually posses guns when in today’s day and age, we have well equipped and well trained police forces only moments away to defend us?
Or, how about - In the days of our founders, they didn’t have organized crime. Why then, in today’s day and age, should we allow an accused money launderer the right to counsel and trial?
They also didn’t have nearly the problem we have now with women being date raped, so why should a magazine depicting naked women as sex objects such as Playboy magazine be legal?
-Yes, private firearm possession should be legal.
-Yes, Americans accused of a crime should be afforded a trial.
-Yes, being able to read Playboy should be legal. (for the informative, hard-hitting articles, of course)
I’m sure you understand where I’m going with this. If you shitcan the Constitution so we can all be “Progressive”, all hell is liable to break loose in any direction. From what I see around me, the general public in America is pretty pissed-off at all 3 branches of government because they’ve been steadily heading AWAY from the Constitution, not because they’ve been such orthodox followers of it.
By the way, capitalism works just fine. Taxes and over-regulation will kill just about anything. And where has the pendulum been swinging over the last few decades? Toward being a more liberal and socialist country? And capitalism has been sputtering and wheezing these last few decades, you say? I’m no Rhodes Scholar, but I think we can all draw a parallel and come up with the same logical conclusion about what’s been stifling capitalism “aka-evil corporations”. It’s when the morons in Washington (both parties) can’t get out of their own way and promise rainbows, sunshine and gum drops to the public in the form of social programs - At the expense of taxpayers.
Yes, adapt and overcome. That doesn’t mean that we have to become a welfare state like Europe. By the way, your Marxist friend James W. Russell who authored the book you posted the link to makes Obama look like Orin Hatch from Utah. Russell is such a tree hugging, Birkenstock-wearing, just one more toke, make love-not war preaching, I can’t make it in the real world so I’ll hang out in the liberal academia community type, elitist, hippie communist, I could vomit all over my keyboard. See for yourself. Here’s his bio:
http://www.easternct.edu/personal/faculty/russellj/SHORTBIOGRAPHY.htm
So to reference that rag of a book of his as to why socialist Europe is so much better than the United States is intellectually dishonest, at best. I’m sure it’s required reading at Berkley or Harvard, though. PUT DOWN THE KOOL-AID AND STEP AWAY!
21 Rushman // Jul 17, 2008 at 9:20 am
Damn Bill don’t think I could have put it any better if I tried. Huge KUDOS!
April all opions aside I truely hope that you read this blog and others because you are concerned about being prepared. No matter what are political beliefs are, we as Americans should be prepared. What does prepared mean. Well everyone needs to find the answers themselves. If you are not in the mindset I hope you would consider it. Think about what happened in New Orleans. Would you want to be stuck at New Orleans Convention Center or Superdome? The failures(by many) during Katrina is proof enought to be able to take care of yourself. Make sure you have food, medicine, and a way to defend yourself. That is the great thing about this country we are all allowed our opinions without fear of the government. Lets just leave this as a difference in opinions and let the polls decide. No matter who wins they have a very difficult job ahead.
22 April // Jul 17, 2008 at 10:20 am
Rushman, that’ s absolutely why I read blogs like this.
But as someone with a liberal arts degree and someone who has worked with homeless veterans, extremely physically and mentally impaired people, and as someone who lives in a country that can’t even take care of its own people on the most basic level, I do think that we can learn some things from Europe (and other nations)… you call them “communist” but they true ideology of communism has never been practiced on a large political scale without the influence of some very bad people (e.g. Stalin).
I do not think that taxes are “evil,” as it seems others here do, but I do think our government could do a better job in allocating money to programs that would actually make a difference in people’s lives. And as a self-proclaimed treehugger, Chaco-wearing, environmentalist atheist, I believe that cooperation will serve us better than aggression any day. One of those methods leads to death a lot sooner than the other.
Also, the “welfare state of Europe” you’re talking about has some of the highest quality of life ratings—-especially compared that to the United States. Acting like we couldn’t take some pointers from countries who provide free education, health care, and family medical leave is ridiculous. There is more to life than arming yourself to the teeth and hoping for survival. By building a strong and healthy populace we can form a stronger defense (and offense when needed) than we currently have.

24 Rushman // Jul 17, 2008 at 6:44 pm
Ok April first I respect your opinion but you got to stop putting words in my Mouth! I didn’t say one Mother F@cking thing about Europe, Taxes, healthcare, McCain, or Bush. But you can’t help yourself. I don’t like Obama that’s it. I don’t think all Democrats are shitty just him. I thought that was what this was about. But since you can’t help trying to beat a dead dog with your great knowledge of knowing who I am I’ll give you some ammo about what I believe so you can at least stick to the facts.
1. Anyone who treads on the Constitution does not deserve to live here.
2. Our vets should receive the highest level of Health care. War vets should get even more top it off with vets wounded in war shouldn’t have to pay taxes. They pay their dues as far as I am concerned. They were willing to die for me.
3. As far as Europe goes when in Rome do as the Romans. But guess what we ain’t in Rome.
4. As far as tree hugging goes. That is fine. I believe we should take care of the world and keep it clean. I am a hunter and a fisherman. I always try to take more out the I bring, trash that is. I don’t hunt and fish for trophy. I eat what I take or give it to someone who needs it. Any true sportsman believes this.
5. Yes I think we could do better with our money as a Country. $250 for a hammer $100 for a toilet seat is stupid. But we need to protect the nation and we do need to spend money on secret weapons and we don’t need to know about them because then our enemies know.
6. You want to help the homeless and those less fortunate fine. But put the ones capable of working to work. Park benches need painting, streets needs sweeping and ditches need digging. Now I am not talking chain gangs only what that person can handle and it will boast their moral knowing they play a valuable part and earning a check. And hey bonus we don’t have to burn all that fuel.
7. Taxes well my Grandfather stated it best to me at a young age. There are only two things that are sure in life: Taxes and Death.
But I am tired of paying for $250 hammers and someone to sqeeze out more kids and sit at home.
8. Illegal Immigration. Hence the word Illegal. If I break into your house that is illegal just like breaking into this country. We need to seal the borders. But our system is broke for legal Immigration. We need to provide then with classes for free and testing for free with a good background check. Charging them is Bullshit in my opinion. You should be able to come here with nothing and start a new life. Legally.
I hope that gives you the ammo you need. I also thought a liberal arts degree is what folks do when they don’t know what they want to be when they grow up. Oh and for the record Europe are Socialist not Communists. Did you not study political science?
I got my degree at the school of hard knocks in the field of Working for what I Got.
Thanks for you time and have a wonderful day!
25 April // Jul 17, 2008 at 7:19 pm
Rushman, sorry if it seemed like I was trying to put words in your mouth—either I was confusing someone else’s comments with yours or I was addressing the general sentiment of the comments or both…
I agree with all of your points except #3 and that’s because I think there is a lot we can learn from other societies (especially ones outside of Europe)…that doesn’t mean we take what they have without question, but there are a lot of civilizations that are doing a better job in certain areas and we can all learn something. It’s just one big experiment.
No, I did study political science and I was using communist in the way that people apply it to any culture they think has too many regulations…I think Bill was the one who said communist anyway, so nevermind.
And as far as choosing a liberal arts degree, well, I felt (and still feel) it’s a better investment to be a well-rounded person. I didn’t want to walk away from 5 years of college with a specific degree, say in Psychology or Business because I don’t plan to have a “career.” I have never known “what I want to be when I grow up” because I am still figuring out who I am and what I am and I don’t think putting those kinds of limitations on my brain is helpful. I also think that people are plenty capable of being self-educated and many of the most brilliant people are dropouts, so whatever works for you. However, I would go back and get the same degree all over again if I had the choice.
Thanks for your opinions and insights—I think we are all a lot less different than we like to think we are.
