Wow-wee. Serious action going on in Denver for Obama’s big acceptance speech shindig. Not only is security around these events an issue anyway, but add to that the first ever black presidential nominee.
There’s a really good article on the subject (and source of the pic) right here from the New York Times. The FBI and Secret Service have some hoity toity new equipment they’re eager to try out. Rumor has it there’s been past turf battles between the two over who does what. They each want to control the skies around events. Sounds like the post-911 turf battle resolution process was pretty much A FAILURE!
Stats from the article:
- $2.1 million for officer protection equipment
- $1.4 million for barricades
- $850,000 for arrest supplies and processing suspects
Denver is getting a big influx of cops from around Colorado. National Guard troops trained in chemical and biological warfare will be ready.
The American Civil Liberties Union has filed a case, stating free speech will be infringed with the crackdown. Folks can’t voice their opinion. Officials are worried the city could be overrun by 30,000 protesters.
Overkill or appropriate measures?
I don’t know.

Well that’s completely terrifying. The national guard is getting involved? That’s weird it almost sounds like they’re helping with police/secret service duties….but that can’t be right?

The National Guard is available to be called on - not involved unless need be.

lol… that Obama idiot is already spending tons of tax money before he is even President.
I read the other day that the Secret Service had to about double their budget for this election process from that of 4 years ago partially from him frolicking around over seas.

Of course, Denver will be the same, as will Minneapolis for the Republicans.

No, no…I’m sure they have set up a “free speech zone “around there somewhere…probably in Colorado City. I agree with Devildog…I’ll stay here, well across the plains, and watch it all. Still, I’m waiting for someone from the GCN (Genesis Communications Network) crowd to blow through there and start causing trouble. I laughed my A off when Alex Jones and his bullhorn appeared behind Geraldo during a news cast. The DNC should be even more fun.

I had no plans to travel to Denver but if it was in my town I would get a mysterious illness and stay home for a couple of days. Explosive diarrhea works great because theres no way the boss wants you to come in.
