Yea, that got your attention, didn’t it. :-D
I have been sucked into a TV show, and it’s terrible. This is my plea for an intervention. Burn Notice. Yup. Terrible. I’ve been without an actual TV for so long that there are 7 seasons of this show that I had not seen. The episodes are the perfect length for the Infant Standard Interval. (ISI – A feeding, a burping, a change, a feeding, nap.) So I’ve been getting through a few episodes a week for most of my maternity leave.

First, there’s Micheal Westen, running around Miami with his nice little outfits. That’s cool, but really that would only hold my attention for a few episodes. I love that Bruce Campbell has an awesome role. Fiona is alright, but she needs to eat a sandwich. What really does it for me are the guns these guys haul out to play with.

Bikers giving them trouble? BAM! Here are some automatic clip fed hand guns! WTF!@*# Where does someone get something like that? Hubby informs me that it’s a MAC-10 , WIKI tells me that’s a cheap kind of machine pistol. I love this quote from the wiki page.
Gunsite, a US firearms training facility, decided against teaching machine pistol firing when it was founded in 1976. Facility experts believed that it is “a slob’s weapon, useful only by half-trained or poorly motivated troops”; they claimed that the machine pistol “hits no harder than a pistol and is no more portable than a rifle.” Nevertheless, even the critics from Gunsite concede that the machine pistol is useful for a few situations, such as boarding an enemy boat in low light or when repelling boarders in a naval situation. Walt Rauch notes that “… critics contend that the weapon will “spray bullets indiscriminately all over the area”
Yea, I’m probably not going to be doing any maritime boarding. Nor do I see myself hanging out with the types of people who seem to carry that type of weapon. Indiscriminate bullet spraying does sound like a little bit of fun though….
Need to take down someone from the next block over? Oh, Fiona’s got a gun bigger than she is with a foot long scope. I think it’s a Grendel SRT.
Aww her outfit matches her gun
Here’s a nice rifle
It’s gotten so bad I can’t even have a normal zombie day dream without it going into Burn Notice dream land and the next thing I know I’m wielding something automatic and C4 is exploding behind me.
Here are some nice Pecs, i mean.. Sig 552
The worst part is the Spy For Dummies monologue that accompanies each episode. I really do feel like I could sneak in and out of office buildings and outwit manhunts after watching this stuff. Now, if only I could pick up a half a dozen languages real quick. :-D :-D
Anyway, it’s the longest day of the year folks. Have a great Solstice, and indulge in some guilty pleasures.
- Calamity Jane

I can’t stop watching it either! It feels good to watch crap blow up!
Hey it is just a fun show
I’ve seen like the first 3 seasons twice, on one of the over the airwaves rerun networks
Need to have fun now and then
I’ve never actually heard of this particular show as I don’t watch TV either, but awhile back I saw the Spartacus DVD set at Walmart and picked it up. Swords, women, violence, intrigue, blood games… it was awful. I couldn’t stop watching it. For some reason Mrs Jarhead really liked it too. It couldn’t have anything to do with all the beefy guys running around in outfits that made a Speedo look like frock.
Thats is a great show
Guilty pleasure of mine too Calamity! The Wife and I love that show!
Since you mentioned the Mac-10, allow me to relate a little story for you.
I grew up in Miami and was a neighbor to the biggest Property Master in South Florida who currently works on the set of Burn Notice and, back then, Miami Vice. (In the film industry, the Property Master is responsible for anything an actor holds or interacts with – Like Guns!)
Back in the Day, in the late ’80s I was working at my job at a gas station and my buddy, the Property Master, came by to show me something new that he just got. I was behind the register when he walked in and there was also a young woman waiting on a stool whose car had broken down. We disappeared into the back office where he pulled out a Mac-10. It had been rigged for blanks and he showed me the single shot mode by squeezing off a few rounds and then, with a flip of a lever, let fly a blast at full auto with the used brass flying all over the small office! After scrounging up all the brass we could find so I wouldn’t get in trouble with my boss he left and I returned to the register. When I walked in I found the young woman still sitting on her stool but she was clutching her purse to her breast in a death grip and her eyes were as big as saucers! Just then her ride showed up and she literally sprinted for the car and was gone in an instant. I imagine that she assumed we had just killed someone in the back room! The police never showed up so I guess she never made a call, but I made a mental note to be more careful when engaged in activities that can be misinterpreted by the uninformed.
Im sorry but, That is a funny story!
I kinda like the short ‘explanations’ of how-to-do, a lot of ‘let me try that’ stuff. As for the show, its sort of Miami Vice 80′s updated. Slow Mo explosions. Mom (Sharon Gless) is a hoot! I also agree with women appearance assessment – hugging them size nothings is like holding a bag of antlers close, not comfortable.
That Grendel folding stock rifle – I had a chance to buy one many years ago, and one of my biggest regrets was passing on it. Sako action, 10 shot magazine, 20″ fluted carbine barrel – for less than $400. Same designer who makes Kel-Tecs – maybe we should lobby to have it reintroduced!
oooo…love this show. Can’t go wrong with Bruce Campbell.
I love the show, good entertainment value! I have actually seen them filming here in South FL! It is the only show completely filmed in the South FL area!! Some of the firearms handling is off, but it is TV and I actually saw some characters wearing their load bearing vests on backwards! But all in all I like watching!!!
Be safe all!
I havn’t seen it but I remember being up watching tv while i was nursing. They both hated me reading a book but tv was fine. I’m sure i would like the show more than Spongebob or Max and Ruby.
The second pic of Fiona? — with her eye up to the scope of what appears to be a Browning BAR sporter — she would come close to having her eye socket punched out with the recoil — very bad form for real shooting
Here is a list of all the guns they use in Burn Notice invade you wanted to know:

I love that show!!!! Another show that is great and shows a lot of differesnt guns is Justified! Check it out!
switch to the series Supernatural if you want something different . Killing monsters and demons .
This show is very suttle (spell?) and VERY anti gun propaganda, It pretends that (1) Every gun owner is a criminal or murdering nut case.(2) That there are TONS of military grade wepons and bomb making STUFF in every gun nuts home/office/ shed. (3) That only the “good guys” should EVER have wepons, Everyone else is EVIL. AND its all done with hot guys, hot girls, hot guns, hot cloths and mojitos. The sad fact is ; This show like “miami vice” and hundreds of other movies and TV shows is just another PSYWAROP ment to PREP YOU for another antigun law. But please ENJOY your brainwashing ; they went to so much trouble to make it FUN!—- Ray in Ky
Love that show too! Living in South Florida it’s great to go down to South Beach of Coconut Grove and see them filming the show…great guns and explosions and my yoiungest son has been an extra on the show in 3 or 4 episodes!!
I have been watching “Burn Notice” for a few years now, my brother had me start watching it to counter the severe boredom that comes with a slow and painful back surgery recovery. I think my favorite part of the show is when they start takin’ stuff apart to do/make somethin’ they need. They have actually helped inspire some of the recent stupid devices me ans a couple buddies used to remove stups in my buddies back yard. Just be careful, some of the info they give you is good…. but some can cause you a world ‘o hurt!
Your definately right though…. Fionna does need a little “meat on them bones”! Looks like if you blew on her hard she would snap!
I can understand your predicament about TV addiction. My children have got so much addicted to the cartoons shown on the idiot box, that it has started affecting their studies.
i try to avoid tv.
i’d probably agree with Ray (in KY)’s assessment, that it is anti-gun propoganda, and that would spoil it for me completely. (plus what “sput” said) how is their “trigger discipline”? do they keep their fingers away from the “bang switch” when not sighted-in on something which needs to be destroyed? positively identify the target, and the backstop?
