So you want to bulk up on some TEOTWAWKI grub, and you’re thinking – what could beat large #10 sealed cans of nitrogen packed Mountain House food with its 30 year shelf life? Buy it once, stick it in your survival house or SHTF bunker and forget about it. No need to rotate stock, no need for nuthin’. The problem, of course, is these nitrogen packed cans of dehydrated goods are EXPENSIVE!

But hey, fear not my fellow SHTF samurais. Because many of you support me through the purchase of grid-down field manuals, Amazon sales, visiting my sponsors, and telling your TEOTWAWKI friends about the site – I’ll tell you how to save some bread if you’re making a big bulk #10 order. See, you help me, I help you – just like a bunch of communists. Look at this:
Can’t tell what it is? Why it’s a wholesale order sheet for Mountain House #10 cans. Ka-chow!
No, I’m not selling the stuff. Decent idea, but I barely have time to keep this blog up let alone go into selling food. But if YOU want a bulk purchase, the only way to do it (in my fiscally conservative opinion) is to do it wholesale style.
The above sheet was giving to me by a SHTF homie that has an seller’s account with Self Defense Supply. Don’t go there looking to place an individual order, though. They’re a wholesale distributor. What you NEED is a seller’s account with them – as easy as sending them a re-sale certificate. Maybe you don’t want to go through the process of getting a re-sale certificate, but maybe you have a friend that owns a store who could place the order for you. I don’t know what the re-sale certificate process entails, but if you’re ordering a large quantity of #10 cans for you, your family and/or your friends, it could be worth the effort. Check the price comparison below, and note that the MSRP listed here is actually below what some sites sell these products for (this sheet is a few months old). All are #10 can prices:
- Rice & Chicken MSRP $20.96 – Wholesale $13.10

BTW: Remember my last Women’s Rights post? Somewhat related is a CNN article on Kurdish female fighters.
Decent Newsweek article on a potential silver lining to this economic crisis. Personally, I don’t see their “maybe people will stop borrowing and start saving” predictions. Americans like love to consume – period.
Worried about global warming – forget about a government response. A decent MSN article on how the economic meltdown will change government’s focus from global warming to stimulating economies. THAT I can agree with. People are worried about the environment so long as there is nothing else to worry about.

Funny…I just ordered $4500 worth of Mountain House last week for a little group buy I was sponsoring.
MH has realized that they are pretty much ‘the only game in town’ and now have some tight standards…for example, you cant charge less than 25% off MSRP, you have to give them notice of sales, etc, etc.
Minimum order to get free shipping is up too…used to be $2k, now its $3k.
Used to be fairly easy to get dealer status with them but that changed earlier this year. Those prices arent bad but…well…lets just say you can do better if you know the right people.
From what I hear, all of the mess with MH turned out to be some of their retailers whining that they were being undersold by some of their smaller competitors. Gee, I thought we were a capitalist country….
But anyway, if you can sneak around it and buy wholesale, go for it! A nice little cooperative would work for those who are surrounded by like-minded persons who don’t have money.
