I Had a Dream: Iran and the SR-71 Blackbird

True story: I had a dream the other night that the U.S. sent SR-71 Blackbirds over Iran to bomb their nuclear facilities. Yes, before you jump down my TEOTWAWKI throat, I know SR-71 Blackbirds are designed for spying not bombing, but hey – it was a dream. They don’t often make sense.

Whenever I have a dream like this I think 1) was it a premonition, and 2) I need to read less news. It’s a timely dream, because the United States has given Iran until THIS weekend to respond to the latest proposed sanctions and incentives to get Iran to stop processing nuke juice. Iran has implied that there is no deadline and they’ve already responded, but . . . you can never take these folks at their word, because they say one thing one day, something completely different the next day.

Meanwhile Israel caused an oil price spike yesterday when their Deputy Prime Minister said that Iran is on a path toward a “major breakthrough” in its nuke juice capacity, something Israel said is “unacceptable.”

It’s my belief that Israel and the U.S. are both waiting until the end of this weekend to see what Iran offers up. If it’s more useless “blah blah” coming from Iranian mouths than prepare your wallet for a REAL oil shock. Oh baby, you know it’s gonnna happen. Israel doesn’t know who will be elected in the U.S. next, and Bush loves to pull the trigger – do the math. How long are they going to let this go on?

My prediction: Iran is either going to bow to U.S. and world pressure, let inspectors in and such, OR they’re sooooo gonna get a little Israeli bombing action before Bush leaves office. Then all Hell is gonna break loose, and we’ll be throwing fists, too. Obama himself, after his overseas trip, got the impression that Israel is going to do something about Iran sooner rather than later. Can’t blame ‘em, it’d be like the U.S. listening to Mexico talk about wiping us off the map, all while processing nuke juice. Shiiiiiit, we’d throw the hammer at ‘em.

Of course, it wouldn’t surprise me in the LEAST if the U.S. covertly helped Iran. Instead of SR-71 Blackbirds it’d be B2 Stealth Bombers leaving Kansas City on a world tour. Iran wouldn’t know what the hell hit them, as they wouldn’t see anything on their radar screen coming from any U.S. bases or ships in the region.

Picture this perfectly coordinated attack: Israel, with their limited long-range capabilities, take off from their base (or secretly take off from U.S. bases inside Iraq), fly over/around Iran, and drop a few explosive treats. Several hours BEFORE Israel’s jets take off, however, some pilot in Kansas City says to his wife, “Well babe, gotta go on a flight, I’ll be back in a while. Save me some leftovers.” Dude then hops in his B2 Stealth from freaking Missouri for a little world tour to drop a package or two off in Iran. Iran can’t prove that it was anyone other than Israel dropping the boom, and Israel and the U.S. keep the B2 action quiet. It’s that simple, folks. It happened with Iraq. It may very well happen again.

Leave Kansas City to bomb Iran – LOL – how American. Everybody now, B2 ACTION:

All we need is another Iraq in Iran. Of course, it’s not the same. But it is. Mark my words.

Glad you liked the mall ninja post. I need to find and identity. LOL

FWIW we wont touch Iran too much political and religious backlash. Plus if we stir up that hornet’s nest it will make Iraq and Afghanistan’s operations infinitely harder. Especially when we want to get those situations resolved so that we dont have to have so much of our money getting wasted in a foriegn country when it could be used to help the recesion.

Actually, the SR-71 when an X plane was tested as a dog fighter and tactical platform. It was back in the late 90s on the Discovery Wings (now military) channel that ran a program showing the bird’s history. In the program they had film of the SR-71 using air to air rockets and the such, but due to the efficiency of the craft and her speed it was deemed non-practical as a fighting platform. This could be changed with today’s guidance systems for rapid deployment of smart ordnance, but I doubt they are going to pull the few they have left over at Ellington Field (NASA uses them for high altitude research), and put them to war duty. We have aircraft for that purpose already.

BTW B-2 bombers are deployed around the globe. Japan had a few squadrons a while back pointed at China and what not. They do not just sit there with the Fighting 509th Roswell (nuclear squadron) or Kansas. I would not be shocked to know we have a few in the mid-east, but submarines are so much more fun.

Um, a US or Israeli (the Israelis wouldn’t hit Iran without US permission) strike would be economic catastrophe.

Iran can almost certainly close the Straight, and there’s nothing the US or anybody else can do about it.

But besides, they don’t have to close the Straight to shipping traffic - all they have to do is sink enough tankers and announce their intentions to do the same to any tankers going through, and nobody will be able to get insurance on oil tankers coming out of the gulf.

From the Iranian point of view, why is it that the USA, Israel, Pakistan, Russia, and India are all allowed to have nukes but they aren’t?

PKS, it would be an economic catastrophe indeed. Iran could try to close the Straight, but the U.S. would be able to keep it open. Further, Saudi Arabia (and other Middle-Eastern countries) don’t particularly like Iran all that well, and if Iran started sinking tanker - they’ll get engaged. It’d be a real bad move for Iran. As for the insurance, if it came to that, governments would step in and insure the tankers, the same as we’re stepping in on the housing market. You can rest assured that Saudi Arabia and Qatar are not going to sit by and watch their oil get held up from going to market.

From the Iranian point of view, yes, I could see how’d they’d be annoyed. But, that’s the way it is. Adding Iran to the list of nuclear countries just because there are others isn’t in anyone’s best interest besides Hamas and Iran.

Iran tried to close the Straits of Hormuz 20 years ago and got b***hslapped by the Navy. Round two would have the same ending, assuming that Obama isn’t president. Oil would go up to over $200 a barrel, though, since we’d shut down Iran’s oil output as we did then.
Stopping Iran’s nuclear aspirations still needs to be done. Sometimes there are no good options, just rotten and marginally less rotten.

tweel said it right. The Iranians are using 1970’s technology with a seventh century mentality. IF and I mean if they mangaged to pull off a suprise attack on the straits they might shut it down for a while. Otherwise, the navy and airforce will just abuse them again. Iran hates the U.S. I honestly think they are the most dangerous threat the the United States in the world today. They are not a military threat, but rather a threat because of who they will enable with nukes. The way I look at it we can pay now or pay later. Later is always more expensive.
