SHTFblog.com - are YOU ready?

It’s shameless, self-promotion President’s Day here at SHTFblog. I’ve said before that I was an English major in college, so it should come as no surprise that I like books. There are reasons why YOU, the SHTF ninja should like books, too. Say it’s EMP time and the nuke clouds go up. You won’t be running to your computer to look up how to fix the internal parts on your Ruger 10/22, or to check the latest post from SHTFblog. You won’t be able to just google “raised bed gardening” and get all the answers you want nor will heading to the local bookstore be an option. You need resources and answers available to you at any time. You NEED a SHTF survivalist bookshelf.

Remember the guy in Lucifer’s Hammer whose idea of last minute preparing was to stuff piles of “how-to” books into ziplock bags and dump them in a hole for safe keeping until the tidal wave passed? Smart move. Here’s a pic of a bookshelf in my house:

There are a few books pictured here that I’d recommend for everyone. The bottom shelf in the pic holds my wicked old Boy Scout manual, Outdoor Survival Skills, Wilderness Survival, Parable of the Sower, Knots, Watership Down, misc. mountain guide books, and The Road. There are some basics on that shelf that every SHTF warrior should have.

Take a gander at the top of the bookshelf, though. At the top is the coursebook I purchased for an EMT course I took years ago, but below that are military fields manuals. Books I just published! These things are 100% SWEET! Oh yes, SHTF party peeps, in an attempt to bring in a little revenue to make this blog worth keeping up I’m venturing into the publishing business - on a limited basis. They’re all in the public domain, and you can find them out on the web in pdf’s, but have you ever read an entire book on your monitor? It’s brutal on your eyes, and like I said, WTSHTF, you can’t run to your pc for information. You can’t read them while laying in bed. Yeah, you could print a pdf file off your pc and thumb through loose printer paper, but these books are thick, and it’d cost you just as much in paper and printer ink as it would to just buy the REAL book outright.

So check it, I’ve created an online SHTFblog “bookstore” with the prints I pimped. These are custom jobs with sweet covers. They’re all beefy, reasonably priced 8.5×11 paperback books. The books on the shelf are actually the Beta versions. I wanted to make sure they’re something I’d buy myself before listing them. The final versions also have cooler covers.

The Army’s Rifle Marksmanship is on the shelf. This book is REQUIRED reading for anyone that owns an AR-15. It covers virtually anything and everything you can imagine on the M16A1, M16A2/3, M16A4 and M4 Carbine: training, characteristics, ammunition, accessories, troubleshooting, rifle instruction, field fire, advanced rifle marksmanship, optics, lasers, iron sights and such details as firing positions, night fire and more. Next is the US Army Survival Manual. This is the mother book of survival field manuals. It’s awesome and a must for your collection. Topics include: survival planning and survival kits, survival medicine, shelter, water procurement, firecraft, food procurement, field expedient weapons, and a whole lot more. Combatives covers hand-to-hand combat for the soldier. It covers a lot of no-nonsense take-em-out fast techniques found in typical fighting situations (no high-flying roundhouse kicks for example). There’s a lot instruction on wresting/choking methods and knife/bayonet fighting. It’s loaded with pics and diagrams, see:

The last book at the top of that shelf is particularly prime. It’s actually TWO books in one. FM 3-06 and TC 90-1 or Urban Operations and Training for Urban Operations. I call it Complete Urban Warfare. I also published each book individually for the person that wants just one, but the larger version costs less than buying each individually. This book covers so much urban warfare “stuff” that it’d take an entire post to go into it. The book is interesting reading if nothing else. There are a lot of case examples of on past urban combat battlefields, how they were undertaken, and what the results were. The Urban Operations book covers the urban environment for armed conflict by discussing how to control the population, urban threats, information wars, planning, rules of engagement, target acquisition, offensive maneuvers, I could go on and on. Training for Urban Operations covers just that, training strategies, urban assault courses, shoot house, breach facility, and more. Interior pics:
