Well, it’s tax season again, that most wonderful time of the year.
Now, a lot of us already paid most or all of our 2008 taxes, because those taxes are withheld from our paychecks. Many of us might even look forward to filing a tax return because we overpaid (in effect, giving the government a loan at 0% interest), and now we expect a refund.
But there are also a lot of us who, for various reasons (often because we are self-employed), owe money this time of year, and sometimes it’s a lot of money. And an important strategic question that arises for shtfers is: when do we stop paying taxes?
As recent events with the banking industry make clear, the government is not on our side. What’s worse is if it keeps spending like it’s doing now, it might not be long before the government itself collapses.
So why give hard-earned money to some bloodsucking monster that at any moment might disappear? For the time being, it’s because if you don’t give them the money (which they in turn give to their friends), you will go to jail.
In the interest of not wasting one dime more than necessary, when does the moment come when you know you can stop paying? Do you wait until it’s clear the government has gone under? Or is it before then?

Even though I can no longer walk straight and need a donut to sit down, life as we know it will hit a brick wall if we stop funding the great big gov’t leech.
Only stop paying your taxes if you WANT the s to h the f.
Then again, if I have to drive past one more somali refugee driving a Cadillac Escalade I might stop paying taxes AND my mortgage and go hit a dealership.

I wonder if a better plan would be for everyone to go buy an H2 (or two), take out a second mortgage to put in an in-ground swimming pool, borrow more money to buy a 52″ tv, and then complain that we are all broke and demand a bailout.
That would bankrupt the government just a quickly and you wouldn’t risk a run-in with the IRS.

Bitmap - Great idea, but we would not get a bailout. We don’t give bribes like the big boys do. THEY are ‘too big’ to fail; we can burn in hell. Greg

After society comes back together after a massive bug-out, I wonder what we would form. What lessons would we pull from the past failures and what do we keep as is. It seems like we have to be getting closer to something that works as I would rather be living in the good ‘ol US of A than anywhere else…

Greg,
Here is what I was thinking about:
http://www.cnbc.com/id/29513414
They mention this:
“While eligibly loan modifications will not require any participation by second lien holders, the program will include additional incentives to extinguish second liens on loans modified under the program in order to reduce the overall indebtedness of the borrower and improve loan performance. Servicers will be eligible to receive compensation when they contact second lien holders and extinguish valid junior liens. Servicers will be reimbursed for the release according to the specified schedule, and will also receive an extra $250 for obtaining a release of a valid second lien. ”
I like the sound of that. Let’s all go get a 2nd mortgage and go broke.

You got to wonder if the silly B#####d’s can just print money and make up whatever astronomical amount they want to throw down the toilet. Why tax us in the first place?
Let them wander around in fantasyland and the rest of us trade and barter for REAL goods and services.
LOL yea lets refinance the ones who couldnt make notes in the first place. Give em a more reasonable payment plan, 30 bucks a month for three hundred years or some such gibberish.

Beat them at there own game for as Long AS you can. I’ve owned a small business that hasn’t really made a dime since Ronald Reagan opened up all those little Loop holes for small businesses. I work fulltime and dawdle with my little partime business which by the way allows me to own most of my tax free toys.
All that is required by the IRS is I’m endeavoring to make a profit I pay taxes but i get that and more back as a return.
For me I hope they go on forever cause its paid for lots of Preps and such………

Unless you continue to pay protection money (errr…I mean “taxes”), the G-boys are gonna pay you a little visit - and it won’t be pretty.
