Swine flu is here, (and apparently spreading) but it seems like a relatively minor situation. I may take that back in a few weeks, but we shall see. What’s most disconcerting about this sickness is that it’s killing people who are normally NOT bothered by traditional flus/illnesses.
“We are concerned that in Mexico, most of those who died were young and healthy adults”
Can I get swine flu from eating pork?
“No. That’s the good news.”
Whew, cause I do love bacon!
Swine Flu Q&A (with ridiculous graphic)
Either way, it’s a GREAT time to stock up on long-term storable foods from the SHTF store- check it out!
UPDATE- Mexico’s Swine Flu death toll has raised from 80-ish to nearly 150.

I was listening to Sanjay Gupta, CNN’s resident neurosurgeon, today and he said that the reason healthy people are dying is because of their immune system is taking a robust action against the virus and this is what killing them. People with repressed immune systems do not take such drastic action and hence live. Have a nice day…

While I do not think this is THE pandemic, it can serve as a wakeup call.

@ SurvivalTopics,
I feel the same way. This doesn’t look like THE pandemic, but I do see it as an opportunity to review preparedness in terms of what could happen if and when the big one comes. Food, medicine and supply shortages. Travel restrictions. Widespread closures of stores. Manpower shortages. Chaotic hospitals and overwhelmed essential services. Mass panic and paranoia. A very real need to steer clear of crowded areas. All of which could happen literally overnight and in many places at once.

The problem is that most of the populace will not treat this as a wakeup call. They will still expect the gov’t to bail them out. Hence Obama asking for$1.5 billion to help battle this flu. People need to realize that the gov’t isn’t going to help you out all of the time. Usually not even most of the time.
