Summer Time SHTFblog Break

by Ranger Man on April 20, 2008

This blog has helped pass the short days of winter, but now the days are longer, and there is extensive yard and gardening work calling my name. This is on top of children pulling at my pant legs every time I sit down to blog.

My preparedness efforts are best spent this time of year in the yard building the base for food production, insulating the house, building a pantry, etc. I have spent about the last 6 months helping spread the preparedness word. Now I must focus on my own efforts.

For this reason posts will be very sporadic during the summer months. Rather than check back every now and then for a post, if you want to read them when they arrive, sign up for the e-mail subscription. No worries, I don’t spam, and neither does Betty.

Thanks for everyone’s support the past 6 months. There is a good chance I’ll kick things back up full-on in the Fall, so stay tuned. You know, unless someone wants to buy the whole blog from me. ;-)

You will be missed, but what better advocate for prepping than someone who makes it a priority? WTG! Please post whenever you get a chance. Also feel free to put your knowledge, humor, opinions in book form for those of us whose grid is already getting shaky. Maybe you could make a million one prepper at a time? My family is up for 4 copies.

I’ve lurked around a while and enjoyed the heck out of this blog, especially the, er, diverse group of contributors. Thanks for the daily look at what is hitting the fan, and how to dodge around while making use of the breeze.

Recent events and the status of our prepping make it time to relocate to a more sustainable city than Phoenix. My husband and I will disappear for a while also, alternating temp work/day labor and community and guerrilla gardening.

We hope to resurface next winter smelling of manure and exhausted, but with ultimate job flexibility, a closet full of dehydrated soup ingredients, and some tradeable heirloom seeds as well as intimate knowledge of our new home’s growing season.

Gotta go sign up for those emails.

May you have peace and sufficient.

Needing to move this blog from the morning reads makes me sad but I understand 100%. I know that this summer over at our place the writing is going to be a whole lot more sporatic or the other two dudes are going to pick up some of the weight.

Have a good time in the garden.

Rangerman,
you’ve amused us all and enriched our lives over the past six months. I hope the short summer break doesn’t become permanent. Your background shines through in the blog and there is definite writing talent at play. Don’t give it up.

FLOWERMAN May 8, 2008

Dear readers of shft.

I address you today as he who plans to be your new leader and take you toward a plane of greater violence and understanding.

Myself and my wife, Flower Woman, are forming a survivalist commune in northern Idaho where we will live in peace and face the latter days with love and arousal, rather than fear and violence.

No guns will be allowed at camp petunia. Also the taking and eating of meat will be forbidden. It is unquestionable that most violence is a result of meat-eating, and the constipation it causes.

Each day we will meditate the world into a better state. If tshtf, we will meet the displaced victims with open arms, vegan meals, and lovemaking.

We are still 998-thousand dollars short of our goal of 100-thousand dollars. In coming days I will start newagesurival.net. You will all have a chance to donate. Those who sign over their worldly goods will be welcomed into Camp Mao, and given a choice garden spot.

Abandon your weapons and meat, you poorr constipated souls. Embrace your neighbors and the green things.

Much Love.

Flower Man

I still check in from time to time. I miss your posts man.

LOL, I’ve met people like flowerman’s description–to each their own, but so many rules…animals still eat other animals from what I can tell from looking outside and watching the nature channel.

As someone once said, I’m not a vegetarian because I love animals, I’m a vegetarian because I HATE plants….

3rd man May 24, 2008

Flowerman I like the arousal part, but camp petunia come on. How about camp arousal. You will get alot of donations on that one. Oh and let me guess, the only ones authorized to have guns will be the leaders of the communion. For the protection the flock of course. This statement from your post says it all “Those who sign over their worldly goods will be welcomed into Camp Mao, and given a choice garden spot.” Sound a little to familiar to me. What about all you other gun carring meat eaters out there. To all our brother and sisters in Northern Idaho be on alert! Their coming.

FlowerMan May 24, 2008

Guns. Guns. Guns.

Have you not seen the way? Can you not leave the madness and find the gladness?

Yes there will be roaming flocks of armed man wishing us harm. But we (and i include you 3d man, for you will surely join) will not answer that violence with the same.

Aggression should be greeted with love and arousal. I have never seen an enemy who would not lay down his arms at the chance of getting a foot massage and a cucumber sandwich. Do you like big cucumbers, 3d man? We have lots.

Flowerwoman and myself still need about 100-thousan out of the 100-thousand needed to start our compound. Please lay down your arms and join with us.

>Also the taking and eating of meat will be forbidden.

That is a death sentence as humans cannot survive without Vitimin B-12 which the only natural source is meat. Humans lost the capacity to produce B-12 eons ago. Modern processed food are fortitified with B-12 and other vitamins which permits pure vegans to exists in modern society. Once the procesesed foods stop arriving at the supermarkets, vegans will be one of the first to join the dieoff.

>Have you not seen the way? Can you not leave the madness and find the gladness?

Its a mad world out there. If humanity wasn’t truely insane, then there wouldn’t be a need for SHTF blogs. You’re living in la-la land if you think you can survive a collapse without guns and plenty of ammunition. If you don’t believe in guns your best option is to remain with the masses and hope for the best.

>Flowerwoman and myself still need about 100-thousan out of the 100-thousand needed to start our compound.

You’ll need far more than 100K to make it, beside land and a home (which will easily consume $100K), you’ll need tools, and other equipment just to survive. Five Cleared acres isn’t going to cut it either. You need a source of fuel to heat and cook, which means either a small hill of coal or a 10′s of acres of wood. Then there is crop rotation since you unlikely to be able to get fertializer. You also need to over plant your crops to accomidate for total crop failures (blight, drought, bad weather). You’ll need to plant atleast twice your yearly consumption, and you need to plant a verity of crops. Some for nutrientional value, such as vegetables and fruits, and plently of foods that can be stored for long periods such grains, beans, and tubers (beets, carrots, potatos, onions) The absolute mininum is about 25 acres for two to four people.

You have as little as two years or s much as 15 years before the collapse. Oil and gas supplies are depleting rapidly. A collapse could begin as soon as two years, if energy exporters start hoarding there remaining resources. Or as long as 15 years if the keep on pumping and exporting “Business as Usual”, although BAU for 15 years is unlikely to happen.

When the oil stops flowing, no diesel means no food as all agraculture equipment runs on diesel and diesel is also the fuel that brings food from the farms to the supermarkets, by plane, train, truck, or boat. No fuel, No food!

Umm. I think Flowerman was joking. You know satire or parody or what ever that literate bullshit is.

3rd man May 27, 2008

Kidding about what part. His big cucumbers sandwiches. Haha

FlowerMan June 2, 2008

The friendship of FlowerMan is not scorned lightly.

I offered you people leadership. You could have discovered a higher plane of arousal. You could have found the gladness and regular bowel movments gained by a vegan lifestyle. You could have sampled my Cucumbers.

I have casted my Granola before swine.

FlowerWoman and I are setting out for Idaho with our followers. We received an endowment from the NIH to start an art colony. We plan on doing it in close proximity to this Rawles character. I’m sure he will appreciate out cucumbers.

Those of you who wish to join us can meet us at the Saint Louis Arch next tuesday. We have three colorful VW microbuses. We will be grilling humus-dogs and finding our arousal.

3rd man June 3, 2008

If anyone is in St. Louis go by and take a picture and post. See if he is for real, but stay away from his cucumber sandwich.

Great blog. I’m posting in my “The Survivalists” at http://www.FaunalForce.typepad.com/survivalists for I doubt that many believe in the looming crises. Understand the energy base of our economy seems to me to be a major way to prepare for the coming difficulties, barely imaginable

I would like to add my survivalist blog to your list of blogs, if that is okay. It is specifically aimed at those that are still in the suburbans and have not migrated to the open rural areas.
