The Pennsylvania Shooting Range – A New Place to Steal Guns?

File this one under “disturbing news I hope doesn’t become a trend.” Everyone once in a while, for curiosity’s sake, I Google “AR-15” and/or “AK-47″ and click on the news link, just to see what results pop up. Sometimes the results are informative, sometimes they’re funny and sometimes they’re scary. Scary would sum up the majority of the search results this time around (actually most times).

I quickly learned that a killer is still at large from a July 21 Pennsylvania incident where a man took his custom built AR-15 with a .308 caliber silencer to the shooting range for a little target practice, only to turn up dead. He was shot multiple times by a gun that was not his own. His AR was then stolen. Apparently the same range had a .308 caliber rifle stolen earlier in May. (Read the article here.) He leaves behind a 6-year old boy.

After reading the article I could picture the scene, some punks were able to steal a rifle at the range one day, and thought, “that was easy – do it again!” Then they get there and see this guy with a customized, pimped out AR-15 and think, “Oh my God.” Then they whack the guy, the father of a 6-year old, and leave.

Terrible. Disgusting. Disturbing. Sad.

So I try to move beyond that total downer, and read an article about Philly police being “heavily outgunned” (second Pennsylvania article), an article about Mexican drug cartels along Arizona border packing AKs and ARs (big surprise there), and then another article about a Saudi woman marches into school with an AK-47 demanding teachers hand over her son.

Then, back in Pennsylvania (notice a trend here?), at a gun range in Mahoning Township, a 19-year old Ohio man goes to the gun range with two friends and an AR-15 for some afternoon shootin’. Let’s call these guys “dudes.”

Dudes get there and they end up talking with three other guys, just as anyone would. Let’s call these guys “scumbags.” Two of the three dudes then go down range to check their target. When they do, scumbag #1 goes back to his car, grabs a handgun and puts it to the head of the dude still by the rifle. Probably saying something like, “Gimme the AR” ….. only with a few expletives. He takes it, grabs the ammo, takes dude’s cellphone and his car keys, too. (Read the article.)

Ummmmmm – WTF!

Now the family shooting range is just a place to steal guns!? DISLIKE!

BTW: I can’t end on a total downer note. I need some kind of …. happier ending ….. ummmm ….. hmmmm ….. did I ever tell you how much I love revolvers?
