Yo! Yo! Yo!
So “Sputumk” (a SHTFblog SHTF homie) tosses me an e-mail a while back to suggest I get a mascot. Then he attaches this:
Dat’s cooo, bro. It kinda reminds me of Watership Down. You ever scope that action? You know, by Richard Adams. Dude, it’s soooo Shit Hits The Fan - from a whole other perspective - rabbits! Seriously, in case you didn’t realize from the way I wax words on the dope track, Ranger Man was an English major in college - awww yeah. I wouldn’t lie to you, Watership Down is good stuff- great stuff! I mean hell, just check the writing on the movie poster:

There’s a character in the book named “Fiver” that sees the future - literally, and it ain’t pretty - AT ALL. It’s exceptionally well written. It’s a freakin classic! Yeah, they made it into a movie, but don’t take the easy route. The book is FAR superior. It’s a read you won’t forget. See TEOTWAWKI as the rabbits see it. Buy the book here. Anyway, I saw your mascot suggestion and thought of Fiver.
As for the suggestion, however . . . yes, a mascot is critical,
but I was thinking more along the lines of . . .
*Ranger Man thumbs toward the left sidebar*
“Betty” - the survival babe.
Oh yes ladies and gents, Betty has enlisted with SHTFblog to help deliver non-stop TEOTWAWKI action. Woo-hoo!
Yeah . . . whatever. Short post today, on Supah (pronounced “soo-pah” (Maine accent)) Tuesday! I spent time working Betty over . . . to get her in the sidebar. Does anyone recognize her, know where she came from? I’ll be really impressed (a.k.a. “shit my pants”) if someone knows. A few of you old timers might be able to figure it out . . . maybe.

‘Betty’ is from that comic book the DOD put out in the ’60’s to help new users of the M-16 properly care for the weapon.

Preventive Maintanence Magazine published by the DOD. The name might not be exactly right. It’s been a few years.

Ranger Man - The lady is none other than Miss Connie Rodd from the US Army PS (Preventive Maintenance Monthly) magazine. She is a HUGE addition to the staff as she knows how to maintain/fix any and all Army equipment. With a great lady like her, you can NEVER go wrong. Greg

I love the PM publications from before political correctness was in. They are almost as awesome as old history books. The only organisms which will do better in TEOTWAWKI are ants and termites. Now I have something to look forward to for friday beside a 6 pack of tallies.

Yep that’s Betty, she’s slightly before my time. But I’ve been a gun nut as long as I could read and love old military publications.

Harmony Hermit - Believe it or not, MSG Halfmast is STILL around, doing his monthly best at PS Magzine. Folks, I’ve been watching & reading these helpers since 1966. Some of the faces have changed, but the advice put out has always been ’spot on’, and waaay ahead of the army FM’s & TM’s. If any of you have access to the magazine (by way of someone in they army; I don’t think they mail out of the system), it would be a good thing to get, especially if you have a lot of army type equipment. “There’s a character in the book named “Fiver” that sees the future - literally, and it ain’t pretty”
Try this:
Mathias Lang (1753-1820):
“After the Great War [WW I] there will be no peace. The people will rise and all will fight against each other… The rich and noble will be killed. The World War will not make people better but much worse… Tell your children that their children will live to see the time when the earth will be cleared. God will do away with people because there will be no charity among men. Religious faith will decline; priests will not be respected; people will be intent only on eating and drinking; there will be many immensely rich people and large amounts of paupers; great wealth will not endure long, for the red caps [Russian bolsheviks or Reds] will come. People will hide in forests and many will go into exile. After this civil conflict and general clearing people will love each other as much as previously they hated one another. ”
After the second great war [WW II], people will think that peace has arrived, but it will be an interval only. One day a third universal conflagration [WW 3] will start, more awful than the preceding ones.
You, my children, won’t experience the largest mischief, you, my grandchildren, won’t also experience it, but the third stock, that will easily experience it.”
“When women walk around in pants, and men have become effeminate, so that one will no longer be able to tell men from women, then the time is near.
“People will build houses everywhere, high houses, low houses, one after another. When everyone builds, when everywhere buildings rise, everything will be cleared away.
“There will be a holy Sign in the heavens, that a very severe Master will come and take off the Skin of the People. He will not rule very long, then when all that has happened as I said, then comes the great Clearing Away.
There will be weapons totally new. In one day, more men will die than in all the previous wars.
Everything will become different than before, and in many places the Earth will be a great cemetery. The third great war will be the end of many nations.
“The Bavarian land will be devastated, and the land of Bohemia [Czechoslovakia] will be cleaned out as by a broom. Over all these places and over the Bohemian mountains will come the Reds… not the French, but the Reds.
“It will happen overnight. While many people sit together in a guest house, outside the soldiers will draw near over the bridge. The mountain will be black with its people, and all will flee, each man will run through the forest. He who has two loafs of bread and loses somebody, he should let them lie and move on, so that he will come through with one loaf.
“However, when you see the horror of the devastation, of which the Prophet Daniel has spoken, then flee as in Judea, to the mountain, and who is on the road, and who is in the field, do not turn around to fetch your garment.
“The people who hide in Falkenstein [Forest] will be spared.
“The People will be sick and nobody can help them. Those who will make it must have an iron head. Those that have hidden during the great Clearing Away will say to every strange Person, “Brother, where have you stayed hidden — Sister, where have you hidden yourself?” Then when people stand on top of the mountain, they will see no light in the whole forest.
“And when one looks over the Danube and sees a cow, one should hang a golden bell on her.
“The shepherds will walk around and put sticks in the ground and say, “This is where Rabenstein was, here where Straubing stood.” [Rabenstein and Straubing are towns nearby Lang’s home]
“Then afterward a good time will come, that which is “Loved by Jesus Christ,” and holy men will do wonders. Once people have their faith again, a long period of peace will follow. Those who are still alive will be given housing and as much land as they need. And the more hands one has, the more you will count.
“Then there will be a shortened summer; winter and summer will not be distinguishable. Although everything around the Danube is wasted and dead, there will be people living in the woods and they will build houses in the woods — beautiful houses, in fact, because all bad things are over and all difficulties have been surpassed. And soon the nettles [flowering plants] will grow out of the old buildings. And the forest will grow again without war and death.”
—————————————
Are you scared yet? Mathias died in 1820. Here are some of his predictions of the 20th Century:
“Iron rods [Railroad] will be built and iron monsters [Trains] will bark though the wilderness. Cars without horses and shaft will come, and man will fly through the air like birds “….
When in the outskirts of the forest the iron road [Railroad] will be finished, and there the iron horse will be seen, a war will begin, to last twice two years …It would be fought with iron fortresses [Tanks] that move without horses”.
[The Kaltenberg-Deggendorf railway, the “iron road” through the Bavarian forest, near lang’s home , was opened on August 1, 1914. War War I began on August 7, 1914]
“Right after this horrible war there will come a time when money will have no value. For 200 guilders not even a loaf of bread will be available, and yet there shall be no famine. Money will be made of iron, and gold shall become so valuable that for a few gold coins a small farm can be bought.” [Wiemer Republic: Hyper inflation]
Two or three decades after the first war it will come one a Second War still larger. Almost all the nations of the world will be involved. Millions of men will die, without being soldiers. The fire will fall from the sky [Carpet bombing] and many great cities will be destroyed.

Now you’re scared!
