Real Live Zombie Action!
200 bucks gets you the thrill of your prepper life. Real zombie action, a life or death shoot out, in an abandoned mall! Of course, our American readers will have to cross the pond to get to this particular bit of prepper nirvana. It’s in Reading, Berkshire, 25 minutes by train from London, but surely that’s no deterrent for the determined.
Sort of…
They hire local students to play the part of the zombies. The guns are the air propelled plastic BB type. The mall is about to be demolished. Their website says “When it’s gone it’s gone!” Which, could be a clever marketing ploy to get more people to dump their MRE monthly allowance on a 2 hour pretend shooting spree with the local co-eds. :-D
Zed Events provide the most realistic ‘Zombie Survival Horror’ experience days in the UK. On a Zed event, you will get to live and breathe the zombie apocalypse first hand. This is not a ghost train or a boring on-rails 5 minute ride. You are on foot fighting for survival. This as real as it gets!
By now I hope y’all know me well enough to not be surprised when I tell you I’d stick to the shelf stable food and some quality time at the shooting range. (But, I come from a long line of stick-in-the-muds.) What do you think? Harmless entertainment? Real test of skill and small group tactics? A waste of money? Or a sound investment? Anybody planning to be in a mall for the zombie apocalypse?
Their site (http://www.zedevents.co.uk/) has a video teaser, check it out. Sound off below.
Have a great 4th of July.

If you need to get your zombie fix, without the price tag, might I suggest finding a Zombie Walk? If I can find them in Iowa, I’m sure there’s one near you. Try HERE.

The only problem I have with all the Z.A.P. BS, is that there are some people who TRULY BELIVE IT . They plan to KILL the sick ,injured and dieing after TSHTF,’Cause they belive that they will become the “undead”.There are WAY to many mentaly unstable people with HUGE numbers of guns slobering at the very IDEA that they will get to “bust a cap” on a plauge survivor. This zombie thing is not cute. In fact , If ya’ll watch you tube , it’s scary as hell.Cause I know that somewhere nearby is a guy with 20-30 ar-15′s /ak’s /belt fed .30 cal.’s just livein’ for the day when he /she can kill every livein’ thing within a mile . Ray in Ky
Ray (when it’s on) I watch AMC’s ‘The Walking Dead.” Not because it could happen, but because there have been some good points brought up about group dynamics, individual choice, mercy and compassion vs. survival. I can pretty guarantee there won’t ever be a zombie outbreak, but that’s not a reason to not think about the situation.
The ‘Zombos” that you talk about are nuts. Full on wacko. But they do have a point – what if you have 20, 30, 40 people headed your way for whatever reason … are you ready to put them down for the greater good (of family, society and self.)
Will we ever face 100,000 zombies looking for brains*? I don’t believe it – but we might face a good number of people without brains and up to no good.
* I personally think the average ‘brain-eating’ zombie would cease to function within days of the ‘uprising.’ ….. not enough brains to support them now, much less after SHTF. “What’s this? A brain eating zombie starving!”
I would suggest spending half that and shooting a steel challenge or USPSA match. Oh but in England you cannot do that!
as long as the “zombies” are wearing propper eye protection, there isn’t much i can say about it. (although even “paintball” makes me more than slightly uncomfortable)
i don’t like the idea of desensitizing myself too much about human shaped targets. steel, or paper silhouette targets are about as far as i’d want to go. (and i hope Ray in KY is exagerating slightly, but i don’t think he is)
The desensitizing is an interesting point. Especially for young people still wrapping their brains around the realities of life.
that’s kinda why i was thinking what i was thinking.
too many people today have no qualms whatsoever about taking someone elses life.
Hornady now makes zombie killer rounds , they have a green ballistic tip . No joke ………………….cashing in on pop culture .
Hahah… I thought about writing a post on those. They are 100% cashing in on pop culture.
IMHO: I personally try to take the Zombie stuff with a grain of salt. There are a few diseases that can cause similar effects (not ‘undeath’ but crazed behavior) and we’ve talked about bath salts before, so being ready for a highly contagious epidemic with large numbers of dangerous symptoms is a wise thing. Not high caliber, high round munitions, but a realization that the neighbors may not be right in their mind (as much as anyone can be in a SHTF event.) That anyone can be dangerous.
About the Airsoft part – I volunteered for the Navy in 1988 and medded out (bad hearing and color-blind to red-green) so I never received any real training (not the Navy’s fault, why invest in a ‘lost cause’?) I’ve considered playing some Airsoft, not for the target practice, but for the process of working with others for group objectives. We can’t use live rounds (least I won’t) so Airsoft seems a good choice – you can find a version of your regular weapons and both hone and speed up your skills. Since I presently have a Sig P220 and a DE 44 and a S&W 357 and am putting together an AR-15 5.56mm, those would be my choices for the game. I know it’s not the real thing – I know I am not going to be learning the real thing, but simulations can certainly help (ask Olympians about visualizations etc.)
As to Zombies in a mall, for the average non-prepping person, it could be real fun. I won’t do it, but I can’t fault them for doing it. As a prep? No. As a little bit of fun for a few hours, by all means – it gets you off the XBOX 360 or the couch or the computer and you are actually interacting with other humans. Use the money for preps, but if you can’t, it’s not a bad way to use your time compared to other things.
Zombie “shoot houses” have been popping up around Halloween for a couple of years. There was one in Coeur d’alene Idaho last year. It’s a fun twist on the haunted house.
Someone else has found a way to turn Zombie fascination into a profit.
These sorts of things do somewhat dilute the true prepper message of being prepared for real emergencies such as a job loss, a local or regional weather emergency, or even a global crisis such as an economic collapse.
But then again, we are already more or less considered whack-os by those who don’t see the need to be prepared.

If someone has the disposalable income then sure go ahead and ahve some fun with this harmless bit of entertainment. In no way do I think this is serious, training, a test of skill or tactics, or a sound investment. Like I said, harmless entertainment.
Hopefully people will understand that zombies are not real, nor will become real. “Training” for a zombie apocalypse is a pointless waste if taken seriously. A test of skills or tactics is also a waste since in no way will this event be anything like a real life situation. Unless there actually is a zombie attack.
Still I can see how it would be fun so have at it if you want to.
Yea, I could see it being a little bit of fun. Not sure if it would be 200$ worth of fun though. :-D
Always nice to see another Iowan on here!
