Bonus! I’m posting Monday’s article a day early.
————————-
Awhile back I got an email from Chad over at www.infidelbodyarmor.com. He said, “Dude, I got some awesome armor. Wanna try it out?”
I said, “Hell yeah! Send it on over!”
So he did. I got it the other day and man oh man, is that a sweet piece of equipment. Since I already have a pistol vest he agreed to send me this bad boy. Here are the specs I took right off their website:
- Water Resistant
- Berry Compliant (made from start to finish with American-made materials)
- 92 weight thread
- Mil-spec 1000D cordura
- Closed cell foam pads
- Duragrip hook/loop
- Shoulder pads have loops for equipment and/or hydration tube
- Include plate carrier pad (not shown)
- Made in USA
Infidel Body Armor rifle plates 10″x12″
Stop: 5.56 (M855, M193); 7.62×39, 54, 51; 30-06; .357 mag; .45 cal; 50 cal Beowulf; 9mm; 12 Gauge Shotgun slugs, and more. All of these rounds were fired from semi-auto AR-15s, AK-47s, MAK-90s, bolt action Rifles, Glocks, Revolvers, and pump shotguns. This is a level III+ plate as tested by HP White, a certified NIJ Laboratory
Yeah, yeah, Jarhead, so what does it feel like when you put it on?
Well, the term badass comes to mind. As a matter of fact that’s exactly what I texted Road Warrior right after I tried it on. I sent him a link over the phone and he wrote back, “That IS badass!”.
I don’t often get into “tacticool” equipment, but this armor vest really IS cool. If you’re in an area where you expect the bullets to fly when TSHTF you’ll want to own this vest. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed.
Ok, first impressions when trying it on:
It’s very easy to assemble. The plates slide into the front and back of the vest and a Velcro strap and heavy duty Velcro strip hold it in place. Don’t worry, it’s not going to go anywhere once it’s inserted properly.
It’s fairly heavy. I wore it down in my basement for awhile and did some boxing with it on. It’s about the same bulkiness as the Kevlar vest I wore in the service, but this thing will stop bullets and not just shrapnel from a grenade or whatever.
It’s designed to protect your core. Obviously it won’t stop a wound to your arms or legs, but if you’re facing the adversary and he shoots you in the chest you’ll be good to go. If he tries to shoot you in the back you’ll be ok. Just handling the armor plates makes you feel good.
It comes with various pockets and has multiple loops on the front and back where you can attach equipment.
Feel Good
I don’t know where you live and what your expectations are after TS hits TF, but if you want a little extra insurance from rioting, looteing, or flat out expect to be shot at you’ll feel good owning this vest. They have other levels of vests as well, so get whatever you think you might need.
They also have a bunch of other products and I’m looking pretty hard at the rifle armor and back pack they have on sale there. That looks like a pretty sweet little rig and I just might have to own one.
Do you have armor? Do you live in a spot where you think you’ll need it?

I do own body armor, for me I went with ceramic plates to reduce weight. Another option to would be to go with soft panels., most will withstand up to .44 mag pistol rounds.. The nice thing is dealing with weight the soft panel gives you some protection. The added benifit is you can run soft panels then if the need arises slide your rifle level plates into your carrier along with the soft plates for additional protection. I may never use them but would rather have it and never need it than wish I had it and be dead.
I’m with the Weasel. I have various rigs for different situations. Don’t forget a K-Pot! The stuff ain’t cheap, but how much is your life, and the life of your family worth?
I went with ar500armor.com for plates. They are brutally tough and the price makes it extremely affordable.
One thing you need to do with plate armor is using some impact diminishing padding behind the plates to save your body from as much damage as possible.
Soft armor certainly helps that.
Very nice set up. SG recently had a British Osprey Plate Carrier for $53, brand new. DPM pattern, desert. I love it. It is bigger, thicker, sturdier, and has sleeves and pockets for multiple layers of protection. Got a set of plates, 4 total, 25lbs total weight of plates and vest. Feels lighter due to distribution. It has sleeves to accept a soft vest under the plates. I am now searching for proper neck and upper arm protectors. $208 invested so far.

Just wondering how you tried it, did you let someone pop off a few rounds at you while you had it on????
Just trying to inject some humor…
anybody have any experience with dragon skin armor?
Tim, Michael Yon & others had some negative things to say about Dragon skin. Better than nothing, but the asking price is probably 2-3 times what steel plates would cost
