“Bannables” – you like that term? (hint: nod *yes*) I like it anyway. The only way it could be cooler would be if it was bananables . . . but that wouldn’t make sense; though it has a raging cool ring to it.
“But what IS a ‘bannable’?” you ask. C’mon, you can figure it out. Just take “able” as the Latin suffix. It means “capable of.” Thus “bannable” is that which is capable of being banned. You know what I’m talking about, don’t you? That’s right – the Mighty AR-15 (and similar such pieces, high capacity mags, the AK, etc.).
You see, a loyal SHTFblog reader who is also a firearms dealer sent me a note just a couple days ago saying he went to order some AR uppers from his wholesaler. He called – couldn’t get through; called – couldn’t get through; called – couldn’t get through; called – got through, but they were sold out of . . . EVERYTHING! He had to go to another, more expensive distributor for the pieces. The rush is on!
Then, just today, I’m surfing the internet and I find this news clip from Florida:
But WAIT – there’s more!
- Texas –Assault weapon sales spike before election
- Texas – gun sales up
- Oklahoma – Gun Business Booming as Election Nears
- South Carolina – Uncertain times trigger boom in gun sales
- CBS News – Gun Sales Thriving Despite Tough Economy
- Ohio – Politics and Economy Drive Gun Sales
- Virginia – Gun Sales are Up
- Connecticut – Gun Sales are UP in CT
- Alabama – Is the Election Causing Gun Sales to Spike?
- North Carolina – Gun sales boom in the Wilmington area
I could continue as the news list goes on and on and on, but I think you get the point – it’s happening all across the nation.
So what do YOU think? Is it time to make that purchase? Does it matter? Do you care? If a bear shits in . . . never mind.
I will say this, because I love my loyal readers, here’s a free plug to dude that sent me the note:
Want to buy your bannable? Go visit dude’s page on Auction Arms. You’ll see he has an M4 listed, an FAL, parts, etc., all at good prices. If you don’t see what you’re looking for – contact him. He’ll ship to an FFL near you (you know, so long as you live in a state that allows whatever it is you want). Tell him Ranger Man sent you.

HEY Ranger, Thanks a bunch! You heard it people, the dung is smacking the whirling blades already, gotta go, just sold another one >>>>>
saw on another site guy was asking if he should get a reload press or a tricked out AR upper.
most guys said buy high cap mags !
osama is coming and it’s all bad 🙁
Yep got a gun show this weekend and I am thinking hard. Don’t really got the cash but better debt now before the messiah bans them all. Hell the way the Obamafanatics talk about him you would think he is. Good luck finding a good deal. Don’t forget handguns are or bannables too!
Hey, if you buy a bunch of bannable shit and the worst case scenario doesn’t materialize, you’ve still got a bunch of good shit! It’s a win-win.
If there is an increase, it’s guys using this as an excuse to buy their 5th, 8th, or maybe even 12th gun. I can’t see someone who doesn’t already own a gun saying, “Hmm, if Obama wins I might not be able to buy an AR-15 with a 30 round magazine, a bayonet, and an adjustable stock and pistol grip.”
This whole ban thing has been greatly exaggerated. During the original ban, assault rifles were still available just in slightly modified form. Even high capacity magazines were available (just ones that were manufactured before the ban). I read somewhere that when that ban elapsed, there wasn’t a surge in buying. The author used this fact to support his idea that the original ban had no effect on the public’s access to guns.
The original ban had an affect on the supply, which caused an increase in price due to the function of supply and demand in relation to price. If you think the “ban thing” is being exaggerated, wait until the razzu is elected and 30 round mags start selling for $40+ instead of $10 each. Just like machine guns, the price will go up when no new bannables (which will become banned eventually) are entering the market.
You can make the argument that the election hasn’t happened yet, but you buckle your seat belt and put batteries in your fire detectors, but don’t plan on getting in a wreck or your house burning down, do you?
Remember that in AWB 1.0 rifles were banned by name, which is how some got around it. In AWB 2.0, I would be surprised if liberal gun grabbers were as ignorant the first time around.
Also, remember that the AWB is another step on the ladder to banning all guns under the guise of taking guns from criminals. If the brady campaign had it’s way no one anywhere would have any guns legally.
They are all forgetting that you shouldn’t fear the tool in his hand, you should fear the man holding it.
I love my state. 🙂
No people who have never bought said firearms before are purchasing them right now. Some people are buying more then one for investment purpose because the hope of a price increase. Others are just stepping up the fact they have always wanted a firearm but never bothered, and they figure well why not this one since it is what us cool kids have. . .
I also find it amazing how many think something bad is going to go down. I do not mean politics either. In fact I do not even know if they know what they think will happen, but I have been asked a bunch of questions by people who thought I was a nut. Now I am not the nut. Now I am the smart guy who rode out Ike with ease while many were uncomfortable. Experience is a sure fire means of getting rid of ignorance. I know Ike did not require firearms to make it, but being prepared is not just about firearms. They learned standing in line sucks. That FEMA blows.
I will say there is a bunch of drama surrounding the sales. The gun dealers love it, but I do not blame them since they are earning money.
FYI: Some of the people I know are democrats voting Obama. They have made their first firearms purchases. That is enough for me to know it is not just politics pushing sales.
re: “mockum // Oct 29, 2008 at 10:43 pm”
(I will try to keep the ad hominem turned “off”)
Your comment is WRONG, misleading, and — given the forum in which you write — dangerous.
I did take a stroll over to your blog (linked to your name) and see that you voted “Democrat down the line. I wanted to vote for the Green Party candidate in a couple of the contests, but removing Republicans from office has a higher priority than helping out a worthwhile third party. This country can’t handle anymore Republican incompetence, corruption, and abuse of power. ”
Maybe that is why you want to obfuscate?
The facts are:
– Obama represents the biggest threat to our 2nd Amendment rights in the history of this country; never in the country has a candidate FUNDED anti-gun groups in his previous employ (i.e. Joyce); I need not even point out his long record of anti-gun VOTES
– during the last “assault weapons ban”, one could not get “military style arms” (with the except of “neutered” ones); high capacity magazines were insanely high (Glock mags = $100)
You do readers of this blog a disservice with your comments. “Hope” is going to guarantee these readers’ access to their rights!
…more on the impact of the coming ban if Obama wins.
Subsequent to the expiration of the last ban, there has been an EXPLOSION in the quantity and quality of firearms and accessories available to those who love the RKBA.
It is well known to historians and those that study business (Porter of Harvard made a career on this) that businesses grow in “clusters”; MagPul being here makes it easier for Bushmaster to be here. Barrett, Badger. And on and on.
As an example, currently there are THREE+ manufacturers machining FN FAL recievers (CAI, DSA, EA) …they exist because there is a market!
Moreover, RKBA lovers are currently enjoying the fruits of our military’s current market for these goods. Do you really think you could buy an Aimpoint Comp M4 if we were not fighting the “war on terror”?
(I strain to hold back my bile.)
People who tell you “everything is going to be fine with Obama” remind me of the method in which veterinarians anaesthetize the condemned before “putting them down”.
RKBA is an interconnected family or innate rights: to hunt for food, to shoot for sport, to defend oneself. A threat to any of these rights is a threat to all. (Did you know that MA, given the recent accident at a machine gun shoot, is working to make it illegal for MINORs to shoot!)
Our little hunters are our future HEROs!
I offer as evidence the story of Gunnery Sergeant Carlos Norman Hathcock II.
“…born in Geyer Springs, Arkansas on May 20, 1942. He grew up in rural Arkansas, living with his grandmother after his parents separated. He took to shooting and hunting at a young age, partly out of necessity to help feed his poor family. He would go into the woods with his dog and pretend to be an Army Ranger and hunt fake Nazis in his own little Germany. He would “hunt” at the young age with a rifle that his father had brought back from Europe during World War II. Hathcock dreamed of being a Marine throughout his childhood, and so on May 20, 1959, at the age of 17, he enlisted in the Marine Corps.”
…for those who don’t know his story:
“…United States Marine Corps sniper with a service record of 93 confirmed kills and more than 300 probable kills during the Vietnam War. Hathcock’s record and the extraordinary details of the missions he undertook made him a legend in the Marine Corps. His fame as a sniper and his dedication to long distance shooting led him to become a major developer of the United States Marine Corps Sniper training program. He has, in recent years, also had the honor of having a rifle named after him, a variant of the M21 dubbed the Springfield Armory M25 White Feather.”
(thanks Wiki!)
BUY A MILITARY RIFLE, TODAY, FOR YOUR SONS AND DAUGHTERS.
Finally, some pragmatic advice.
Things likely to be hard (impossible) to get:
1) “military style rifles” (http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c110:H.R.6257: is the text of the new 2008 bill — sitting IN WAIT)
2) semi-automatic pistols capable of holding more than ten rounds (nearly all of them, Glock to XD)
3) folding stocks, barrel shrouds, bayonets, etc. (even on “permitted” rifles, like, say, a bolt-action rimfire!)
4) optics with “tactical reticles”, whether red dot or ranging (like MilDot) {if you doubt this, speak to someone in California}
5) high capacity magazines and repair parts for banned firearms, grandfathered or not.
6) infrared and thermal imaging devices and “pointers” …lasers. (worth a post, Ranger Man?)
7) body armor
Shop accordingly.
just remember to dry hop your beer on the primary fermentation. preferably with like two ounces or more. you will be pleased.
Stay Sharp
You da MAN!!
I try not to talk politics on preping blogs, but I love when others are still willing to do it and speak the truth. Keep it up.

Ban or no ban. the guns i choose are still legal.
I got rid of all the modern stuff and upped my Black Powder guns. Got me two more all fiberglass Bear bows too. I’m hoping to find me a ten guage percussion double to round out my collection. Folks were just dying to trade me for the last of my ammo stash. I got me plenty of lead and molds in trade.
One guy traded me straight up an enfeild musketoon for an SKS. I think I got the better end of that deal. Dragon
Tryin’ to find StaySharp’s site…any hints? (hint-hint).
Most excellent post, Stay…er, RangerMan! LOL
Stay Sharp… YOU ARE THE MAN! I love those posts! I am a military member and have only met two anti-gun people in my ENTIRE miltitary career (ten years). i converted both to the way of the gun. i have carfeully explained to all who will listen that gun laws only count to the people who will pay attention to the LAW. criminals dont pay attention to the LAW. that simple. Stock up now. If Obama makes it into office we are ALL boned.
To ‘oneman’ –a double thanks to you ! 1-for your service to our Country 2- for converting the anti’s
PS-to anyone, the youth r the future for the 2A. Bring a newbie (young or old) to the range. For a kid-Jr NRA membership $15 w/INSIGHTS’ magazine
I was at Ammo Attic in Melbourne, Fl yesterday and they were doing a alot of business……alot of rifles and handguns-
Y’know, a friend of mine grows hops, and he turned me on to taking a hop flower (he keeps ’em in the freezer in Zip-Loc type bags), and biting down on it whilst taking a drink of beer, any beer, and getting a truly “intense” hop flavor. Keystone Light, for instance, is transformed into some kind of danged nectar using this method.
Obama sucks, and McCain isn’t great, but he’s by far the lesser of two evils, with regards to gun rights and everything else.
The R Man
Ammo Attic was the first gun store I ever went in as a kid. I’m still not sure why as both parents were anti-gun, even though they were raised with them, maybe they sold sporting goods too. I was at Shoot Straight in Apopka, FL last weekend and it was a madhouse. Mostly crappy Smiths were selling, but some were looking for decent guns too. If Wednesday goes bad, I’ll probably be ordering an S load of mags.
Just a comment from South Florida. It is very hard to find large capacity mags in most stores. I have a friend who owns a gunshop and he is on the phone a lot trying to order more AR, AK and Glock mags. They are selling like hot cakes. He can’t keep AR’s or AK’s in the store, he has a list for people to get on to buy them.
Hang tough guys!
Guns ‘n’ ammo is where it’s at. Stock up now while y’all still can!
Where are you Rangerman? Standing in line at the gun shop?
Off Obama’s official transition plan website:
http://www.change.gov/agenda/urbanpolicy/
“Address Gun Violence in Cities: As president, Barack Obama would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun trace information, and give police officers across the nation the tools they need to solve gun crimes and fight the illegal arms trade. … They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent, as such weapons belong on foreign battlefields and not on our streets.”
oops , there it is !
it’s a no brainer this fool will try his best to outlaw firearms.
supposedly experts say he’ll be too busy trying to fix the economy………..hah !
these bums ruin the econemy ! thanks to all the dolts that put this buffoon in power 🙁
2 posts above I linked to Obama’s gun ban plan
as of today, the page has disappeared
thankfully, there is a Google cache of the page:

it is gonna be a very loooooooooong 4 years!
(cursing under my breath)
What I really feared:
Obama to use executive orders for immediate impact
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081109/ap_on_go_pr_wh/obama
“Executive orders “have the power of law and they can cover just about anything,”…
It’s gonna be hard to feed those ComBloc rifles 7.62×39 after all that excellent, cheap Wolf goes bye bye…
parts…
YO PEOPLE, IF YOU HAVEN’T BOUGHT OR RESERVED A BLACK RIFLE BY NOW (11/11/08)…GOOD LUCK. I CAN’T FIND A SUPPLIER ANYWHERE IN THE USofA THAT HAS ANY, PERIOD. I HAVE A FEW TO SELL, BUT ARE SOLD THE DAY I LIST THEM. REFER TO RANGERMAN’S LINK TO AUCTIONARMS.COM
I just came back from the gun store.
I took my best friend, a guy who voted for Obama.
I walked him through the process, and he bought his first gun.
Go out and do the same.
Plant, seed by seed.
Good deal, Stay sharp! Glad your buddy was able to get his first gun! i bet he will love the shooting sports more than he can imagine! I likewise did the same for my brother-in-law about seven or so months ago. He and my sister are both Obama fans and i took him to pick up one of the M70 underfolders, just because he became very interested in the Ak-47 style rifle after watching that one show that has the top ten on it(it aired early this year i think). i cant remember the name of the show or even the channel it was on (feel free to help me out on this one people) but it had the Ak-47 as the number one firearm of all time and the ar-15 style rifle as the next in line. It was a really great show. anyway… he wanted an AK so bad after watching that and instead of mocking him for his political desicions, i took him to a few of the local gun stores and he picked out one of the Yugo M70 underfolder rifles and became one with the gun owners of america! i wanted to pick up one of the base AK-47s with wood furniture (just because i like that style) however they didnt have any left and i wanted a new rifle right then anyway, so i bought one too! i didnt have one so i figured what the hell. Yes before everyone freaks out on me, i do have an AR as well. i just wanted an ak style rifle for shits and giggles! Anyway… i took my brother-n-law to the range to break in his new rifle, and not surprisingly he loves to shoot! go figure. however, he as well still voted for Obama. we cant all be perfect though. well thats about it. Oh and to ‘Dave’… thank you for your support of the troops! We are still here and appreciate folks such as yourself who still remember us. I am currently deployed to the middle east and have been for just over 6 months now. we all are proud to serve and many of us are a little disapointed with the way the election turned out. but hey that is what democracy is all about! once again… thank you for your support.
Damn Rangerman that line at the gun shop back east must be long where the hell are you. The world didn’t end yet you can come out of you bunker until Jan 09…..
My guess is that RangerMan isn’t ignoring the rest of us. Deer season (with firearms) in Maine started Nov. 1st. He’s probably spending his free time with that. I’ll bet we see him by the 1st of Dec. Unless he ‘s unlucky with a cartridge arm and decides for a try at the muzzleloader season (first 2 weeks of Dec. in his part of the state, only first week in the North). Anyway, other than that, he did mention he had some other irons in the fire, so maybe he’s just too tired to do everything.
Hopechangy website is back up…
http://www.change.gov/agenda/urbanpolicy_agenda
with new wording — same intent:
“…They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent. ”
Get on it.
Rangerman,
Hope all is well and you are enjoying hunting season! God Bless!
PS anyone have any good sites to purchase mag-pul p-mags for ar’s? Can’t find em anymore!!!!
there was a guy around here that had some mag-pull mags , but of course he’s sold out like everybody else 🙁
thanks for the osama link. knew that bastard was going to go after the 2nd amendment and there it is right on his web page
i think i’m mostly freaked out by:
“Obama and Biden would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun trace information, and give police officers across the nation the tools they need to solve gun crimes and fight the illegal arms trade.”
Law enforcement *already* has access to the trace information … the Tiahrt Amendment simple makes that information *only* available to law enforcement (and that, only with a warrant) …
I’m not shocked that they’re using a flat-out lie to sell the idea of repealing the amendment (they campaigned on lies), but i am left curious as to why they want to make gun ownership information available to non-LE. i can only think of three reasons:
1- to set up powers for the ‘national police force’ he wants to make (if the national police somehow didn’t qualify for access to the records)
2- to make the information available to some other group that will be taking our guns …
3- to make gun owner’s personal information (home address, for example) available so people who want to harass gun owners can easily find them (like people do to sex offenders).
regardless the reason, it is a big leap in the direction of taking away our *existing* guns, which is something far more threatening than any of the ‘banning new guns’ legislation on the table. It, like the other threats to our freedoms posed by the coming administration, places us in a ‘guilty of the possibility of being criminal” realm, much like that Tom Cruise film (minority report?).
Aside from removing the need for a warrant, another huge issue i see with repealing this amendment is the increase of illegal guns it will cause. some people who don’t want to be on a public list will find ways around providing their true address. more people will buy guns ‘on the black market’. essentially, many people who are otherwise law-abiding will dare become ‘criminal’ in order to enjoy their second amendment rights and maintain their personal privacy.
Inforodeo- i think you are 100% correct on all possibilities. the whole situation scares the hell out of me.
The Tiahrt Amendment does not prevent Law Enforcement from doing gun traces. It keeps that information from being made public. The ATF also does not support allowing this information about traces becoming public as well. The statement on Obama’s site is a totally FALSE statement about the restrictions on Law Enforcement. Also there is no warrant requirement it only has to be a bona fide criminal investigation or prosecution or for use in administrative actions by BATFE according to the below NRA website. So click on the below link to get the correct information.
http://www.nraila.org/Issues/FactSheets/Read.aspx?id=208&issue=007
Here is another link about the Tiahrt Amendment. It seems the only people who want the information made public are those intrested in suing gun makers.
http://thehill.com/op-eds/reauthorize-the-tiahrt-amendment-2007-05-23.html
I hope most of these new gun owners are helping do their part by joining a Pro Second Amendment Organization. We must admitt that the NRA is the largest & without them we would have lost the fight long ago. Don’t like them ? Instead of postings on top of postings telling us how bad they are, join http://www.GOA.org Both orgs have a Life memberships–1 time payments or payment plans. If the 2 A is in your blood as it is mine, give them a couple of hundred down payment, then have them start $25 payments. This is our insurance for us and the next generation. Join your State org &/or a State with 1 of the worst laws (NY, NJ, Cali, screw Obama by joining http://www.ISRA.org ) stop a gun law before it gets to your State. And lets not forget JPFO.org Yeah, I must sound like an informercial , but plz put a good amount of insurance on your investment(s) for the future. thanks for reading
have memberships to both GOAL and NRA.
think the NRA could save money by not constantly sending out mailings begging for money.
they sold a pitch for some nra knife for a $50 contribution and then stiffed me on it.
didn’t care about the crappy knife , just that they played me.
now they get the yearly membership and that’s it. their still basically the only game in town and that’s why they get my money ( or at least some of it )
…echoing the above two comments, I add:
1) DISCUSS the 2nd Amendment, responsible gun ownership, and HOW FUN shooting sports can be with those who are open to it;
2) GIVE A GUN to a friend or family member! {who can legally own it} — create a new “owner” with a stake in the issue
3) support grassroots/child oriented efforts like appleseed…
http://www.appleseedinfo.org/
Cheers!
I supply gun shops and the like with a lot of different stuff. EVERYONE has sold out of their high cap AR mags and almost every gun shop owner I have spoken with has seen 3-5 times more business since Obama was elected. What was normally a weeks worth of sales on guns and ammo has turned in to a daily take. The race is on since the Presidential race!
…words to the wise:
If it is something that you want, or NEED, get it now. If not in stock, get on the backorder.
Consider this: If you are one of those hoplophobes in public office — Obama, Biden, et al — and you read or hear about this mad rush to get guns and ammo, what are you going to do?
a) Sit around and wait, as “normal” years of firearms sales happen in mere weeks, undermining your efforts to ban guns?
or
b) Do what ever is in your power IMMEDIATELY upon taking office to stop the accumulation — laws, executive orders, etc.!?
Do you think they are sitting around, hearing these news stories and celebrating?!? They are scheming right now. COUNT ON IT. They might be evil, but they are not idiots.
Further, the shortages are spreading from the lowers, rifles, and magazines to other items, components to accessories.
As a case in point: Rumor has it that MagPul running the molds overtime and is not doing any polymer items except PMAGs. What do you think is happening to their production of polymer enhanced followers for USGI magazines? Stocks? Rail covers?
Parts shortages — even for things like lower parts kits for ARs — are starting to impact rifle assemblers who can’t get supplies!
Read my comments above, esp. #9 & #11; if any ban actions are taken early next year, the manufacturers will STOP production of most items, even if they have orders for them — it will either be outright not legal or it will be TOO RISKY a business decision.
…think you’ll find an orange, range PMAG then? Forget about it.
Hope all is well with you Rangerman, We miss your commentary. A lot.
bought p-mags for $20 last month. shop just got in a new case of them and their now $40 !
after osama gets in they’ll be $100 !
