I prefer “Go Bag” but everyone has their own name for it, it’s the bag that’s ready-to-roll at a moment’s notice.
*crackle on the radio*
“beeeeeeeeep”
“This is the Emergency Broadcast System – an asteroid is heading for Earth – zombies are wandering the streets of New York City – it’s TEOTWAWKI time.”
Whatever the situation, cyclone, nukes, disease, could you move at a moment’s notice? Ready, set, NOW – where’s your Go Bag? Don’t have one? C’mon, chop, chop! Doomsday won’t wait for you to pack. Build one – tonight!
Suggested ingredients for the bag of goodies:
- food
- water filtration system or iodine tablets with wide-mouth water bottles
- maps of your surrounding area and a compass
- GPS if you have one
- flashlights (at least two, preferably headlamps)
- extra batteries galore
- matches, matches, and more matches . . . toss in a few lighters, too
- first aid kit
- list of important phone numbers, loose change, and a calling card
- a good “how to” SHTF book
- emergency shelter
- prescription medicines you may need
- knife
- handgun and ammunition
- crank radio
- extra socks
- rain gear (get wet in some parts of the country during the wrong time of year and you’re 100% SCREWED)

Top 10 Lessons for Surviving a Zombie Attack
1. Organize before they rise!
2. They feel no fear, why should you?
3. Use your head: cut off theirs.
4. Blades don’t need reloading.
5. Ideal protection = tight clothes, short hair.
6. Get up the staircase, then destroy it.
7. Get out of the car, get onto the bike.
8. Keep moving, keep low, keep quiet, keep alert!
9. No place is safe, only safer.
10. The zombie may be gone, but the threat lives on.
How about some gold coins (legal tender) in the smaller denominations for bribes? I believe that in the past people have bribed their way out of war zones.
I have no bones to pick with a GO bag/GOOD bag/BOB, but do not agree with the Max Brooks concept of zombies.
I do not think a bike is better than a car, but do see where they could be useful.
Gold would be a useless weight, and a unnecessary encumbrance as anyone who is trying to get a bribe for safe passage, will probably take your stuff to begin with.
It should be “Bug out BAGS”…… each of your vehicles should have one and one more in your mudd room.
What’s inside would depend on the season, hot or cold.
I carry a lot more in my pick up….. like a tent, a 100 W generator, thick pad, cooking utensils and so on ……… but……… all that would stay behind and I would carry only my back pack in an emergency.
