Ever think that with the way things are in this world right now that a full-blown SHTF event might be a bad thing? Let’s reboot the world and start over and maybe we can get it right next time, right?
I have to admit I think like that sometimes and then I run across a story like this. Basically, an 11 year old boy who’d lost a leg to cancer was competing in a triathlon and during the final phase (the run) a screw in his prosthetic leg broke and he was forced to stop. Then along came some Jarheads and picked him up and carried him over the finish line.
Man, I was happy to read a story like this after the rest of the stuff they have on CNN during the course of the day. Now, I’m not posting this just because the young men involved were Marines, although I’m damned proud of them for jumping in, but also because a young man with the heart of a tiger got out there and tried to do something that’s tough under normal circumstances much less with a prosthetic leg.
I guess there still are some good people out there with heart, courage, determination, and integrity and I’m grateful for stories like this that remind me of that from time to time.
Makes me think we might be able to get through whatever is coming after all.
Do you know anybody with these characteristics? A nephew? Cousin? Son or daughter? Neighbor? We’ll need all the good people we can get when TSHTF.
Tell us about them below!

Thanks for sharing. It was just what I needed today to lift my spirits.
It lifted my spirits too, GW.
Jarhead you said:
“I guess there still are some good people out there with heart, courage, determination, and integrity and I’m grateful for stories like this that remind me of that from time to time.” You are right & you are wrong ….
I believe this act by those Marines is the true & natural American spirit which is the contextual foundation of our constitution that was deeply rooted by our forefathers. This is what Americans do in their heart of hearts – they jump in & lift up those neighbors in need. You do not need to know anything about them except they are American.
What this country lacks are the true leaders whom all exemplify that spirit of the people. Day in & day out we have numerous examples of this spirit that never get the press because quite frankly, it is a pretty normal course of action & may get boring watching it on a steady diet.
The people of this country are sitting & waiting for those leaders to come along & we people will gladly walk over white hot coals, hand in hand with those leaders to make this country shine. As we sit & wait in inaction, we get fed all of the negative, fear driven crap by the less than .1% of the population in an effort to control & break that spirit.
This is exactly why, in my opinion, the vast population has become superficially jaded & untrusting which ultimately becomes totally pissed off in nature, because it is NOT who we are. Lead with an iron fist & you get iron people; lead by people who lie, you get people who don’t trust & so on.
We are to blame for our problems not our leaders who lead with the bully mentality.
Brought a needed smile to my face. Thanks!
OORAH!!
Jarhead,
Don’t t be discouraged, the news unfourtantly, the media is in it for the ratings. Everybody wants to see the train wreck! There is more good out there than bad I believe. When and if something happens I believe you will see more people coming together than fighting. Granted we must be prepared there is always an element that wants to cause chaos and harm but I feel all in all as Americans we are good people with the genectics to survive and overcome, it’s in our DNA.
I agree Wild Weasel. The media is in it for the ratings. And basically we are all good people.
yeh, but Marines are a special breed.
Fine feature Jarhead:
bo .
I firmly believe in the “silent majority:” who will I stand up when the SHTF
Be aware and prepare!

That’s a sad story, man.
Reminds me of a dad a few years back maybe more than a few actually, who competed in the Iron Man Triathalon. He had a son who mentally and physically disabled. He did the swim, towing a raft, with his son in the raft, then did the run, pushing his full grown son in a three wheeled stroller, then completed the bike ride towing his son in a specail made trailer attached to his bike! I was so impressed and awed of this guy, I knew it takes some of the best physical shape to even compete solo in this event, but this guy did it for two! You could see the pain this guy was experiencing on his face, I know he was hurting, but I beleive he finished the race. I consider myself a pretty tough guy, being in my line of work (Firefighter), but I cried my eyes watching that guy. So kudos to those Marines, and to that young man for competing in the first place, gives me hope for the future even if TSHTF.
Thanks Jarhead
Hey Ernie – I remember that story! That was quite an act of devotion to his son. You’re right, that tri is absolutely brutal.
> What this country lacks are the true leaders whom all exemplify that spirit of the people.
No, what we have ARE true leaders that exemplify the spirit of people and they are leading us right to hell. That is the problem. Instead what we need are true leaders that exemplify the spirit of God.
Instead we have demon possessed Obama or Carl Rove’s pick of a Mormon that thinks Jesus and Satan are brothers.
This country was founded on Christ and grace. Dick Morris basically had it right when he said our Civil War, was a religious war with roots in Great Britain.
We now have a Supreme Court completely devoid of grace with even an homosexual atheist Kenite as a judge now, that calls herself Jewish, you know her as Kagan. All hail King Kagan!
The Curse of the Zeroes and the Civil War was all about exalting man’s word over God and ignoring his grace and the blood redemption for the blood we spilt of slaves, our brother in laws. The atonement for abortion in 2013 will be much worse because we have no leaders that can or will say six simple words on stage to truly acknowledge God. I doubt Romney who enslaved the population of his state will either,
Our leaders gave us Obama Care and filled it up with goobly gook while taking shots at the founding fathers and the Constitution, while laughing in your face the whole time they did it because the majority are just stupid sheeple to them.
No, we have exactly the leaders we deserve and after making the Venn diagram of Obama’s SOTU 2010 speech, he knows I know it, and he openly mocks you with it. While people praise him because of the speech. Since most of you are probably not as Harvard educated and cunning as the Communist In Charge, here was his message:
The hidden message in Obama’s speech the 1st paragraph reads :
For the world
periods of tranquility
midst of depression
moments of great strife
My advice is prepare for Civil War II in 2013 because we got the leaders we deserved.
1. The spirit I refer to is that which was demonstrated by the Marines & is present with most every American which makes us unique in the world. It is about character.
2. It is a common mistake saying we are a Christian nation because we were founded upon Christian values. While the Constitution, Bill of Rights & Declaration of Independence refers to God & Biblical values as a base, it does not imply that we are Christians or a Christian nation because that would void freedom of choice & freedom religion which is our true foundation.
Freedom of choice is God given & started in Chapter 2 of Genesis in the Garden of Eden and it is everywhere from all of the Old Testament through all of the New Testament.
3. As a Christian, the Bible is very clear that we are to be Christ like. How do your messages reflect Jesus? Aside from the time in the Temple where Jesus demonstrated quasi anger & turned over the tables of the vendors, where does He act or speak with the same ‘fire & brimstone’ preaching you put forth? Well over 99% of what He taught was quite the opposite.
4. Obama is about as much demon possessed as you are. He happens to believe something that is in conflict to your beliefs. It is his choice, pure & simple as it is yours.
5. Kenite/Kagan is a cultural Jew (big distinction) & it is possible to be an atheist. Again choice.
6. You said – “after making the Venn diagram of Obama’s SOTU 2010 speech, he knows I know it ….”
Sorry, that is a bit too spooky for words.
7. Instead of preaching & by default advocating of Civil War II, try a more comprehensive study of Jesus to get clarity, specifically Matthew Chapter 5 – the Sermon on the Mount. Note verse 43, words from Jesus:
“You have heard that it was said, “You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.”
I ran off to the mountains for a few days. Did I miss anything?
prepare for civil war before November 6th. 2013 is too late to prepare. the reparation for Slavery in this country was already paid in blood. (much of it Irish, I might add) it’s probably too late to avoid what we deserve for allowing abortion.
insane people lack the capacity to determine right from wrong. Evil is a choice.
I don’t have any stories that overtly motivational, but I must admit my young daughter just impressed the heck out of me over the last two weeks. She is a cross country runner in the state of New Hampshire(12 yrs old) and is consistently the second best runner on her team and has been moving up the state standings as the season has progressed. However, last week she hurt her foot while in PE at school and was on crutches over the weekend. She wasn’t able to run at the beginning of the week, so she got on her bike and rode as many miles(almost all up hill for training) as the fading light would allow after school each day(10-20 miles in the beautiful NH mountains). As the pain receded, she got back out to running and is now readying herself for the state championships on Saturday. I’ve been hoping and praying that my wife and I had been setting the right example and raising her and her younger brother(a very strong-willed soccer player) in a manner that instills values and discipline…….I would say this was my payoff!! I must’ve looked like a strutting peacock when I witnessed this…..made this old military guy a bit moist in the eyes!! Hope for the future comes in the smallest of ways and at the most surprising of times…..
That’s a great story, Granite Prepper. Your daughter showed integrity and courage she made you proud. Hell, she made me proud!
Thanks Jarhead, and yeah, she definitely made me proud. As a followup….yesterday she cut three fingers on her writing hand while carving pumpkins at school and had to visit the ER. Then, at the state meet today, she reinjured her foot but still finished the race…..though in pain and tears!! Had to haul her around like a sack of potatoes while the foot was being iced…..man that girl has gotten big!! Now I need ice for my back!!
Granite Preppier, glad you shared that. My oldest daughter, also 12, also runs cross country. She battles with asthma, but her time improved by 3 minutes from last year. She is awesome, to me. She was only 4 pounds 11 ounces when we brought her home. Her lungs weren’t completely developed, and she spent the first week in the NICU, and the next six months on a breathing monitor. Now she runs cross country, hiked a brutal 14 mile hike through the Utah Rockies with me, in about as many hours, (did better than I did), and is good hearted too. She made state, but came in far back at the end of the pack, because a team mate was struggling. So she paced her, held her hair while she puked, and kept her going to the finish line, even though it wrecked her chance at a PR. Kids can be heroes too. Thanks for sharing about your daughter.
there is still some hope for the world.
thanks Granite and Odin for raising great kids.
Lol, she’s a great kid, through no fault of my own. Kids, scary as hell to raise, but the best thing I’ve ever been part of…
Another great story. Thanks child of Odin for sharing.
That’s a great story!! Your daughter is really something to torpedo her own chances to help a teammate……that makes me smile just thinking about it!! Thanks for raising such a motivational young lady!! Take care my friend.

child of Odin fast forward a few years …
My now 19 year old son was looking for his first job at age 17. He go a line on a great small chain restaurant he in the San Diego area & asked me to sit with him to help him fill in his application. When he finished, he saw the wide margin at the bottom & decided to hand write in some things about his accomplishments – took 2nd at the Pan American Jiu Jitsu Games for his age group & was a 4.3 GPA student & organized some groups at his high school.
He got the call for an interview to be a cashier & table/floor cleaner. The day of the interview he arrived in a suit & tie – his idea & said he needed to look his best. This is for a cashier’s job for a teenager. He made sure he did his best on the interview & got hired. He became the best employee in the company for his position & received a pin for it. I asked if he asked for a raise & he said no, when they think I deserve it they’ll give it to me.
Two weeks ago they had an opening at one of the stores for a manager. They asked 5 people to interview for it – all internal employees (they have about 25 restaurants & expanding). He was the youngest (19) & had the least time with the company by far than the others & showed to the interview dressed professionally with a resume, which wasn’t much. He crushed the interview so well that he was the only one in the final interview. They gave him a salary of $45K per year, full benefits & bonuses based upon his store profit.
What really makes me happy is he is all effort & heart & everyone likes & respects him. You really can’t ask more than that as a parent.
Yes, kids can be heros too.
WOW Jason, that’s truly impressive…..and not just for a young man!! I’ve seen older people in today’s world not nearly so prepared for life….let alone an interview. I can only hope my young offspring display such tenacity and grit….truly motivational!!
Thank you Granite, I am proud of him because it was his idea to do it. When he got the job I gave him to rules to live by –
1. Arrive at least 5 minutes early, if not 10 minutes. I reasoned with him that you want to work without feeling rushed or under the gun.
2. They pay you to work & help them profit so if you ever find yourself with down time, find something to do – clean table bases, do any other detail work but never, ever sit idle.
He taught himself how to be a line cook, he does the restaurant inventory & writes out orders, makes prep food, read all of their manuals etc. I guess he took my advice #1 to heart! He is the kind of kid that sees the goal instead of the obstacles.
His younger sister, my daughter (18 years old) is equally as impressive. She is an Economics major at a major university, captain of the college dance team, tutors math & still has time on her hands.
I’m still waiting on the DNA test results because I’m not so sure they are mine!
If you love any kind of account statement of your respective actually worth, aspect buddies.
