Today’s post is a SHTF Blog brain dump, dumping thoughts on a few random subjects.
Freeze Dry Guy Kicks it Survival Style at SHTF Blog
First off – special thanks to our TEOTWAWKI homeboy, Freeze Dry Guy for purchasing ad space. Check him out. He’s running a December special on freeze dried products. Makes a great preparedness present!
Want to be on the National Geographic channel?
Jessica Ribeiro from Sharp Entertainment contacted me recently. They are making a new series for National Geographic called Preppers. She wanted to know if I or any SHTF Blog readers would be interested in being profiled for the show. She wrote:
The goal of the series is to showcase the motivations and strategies for prepping, and to provide a platform for preppers to share their unique stories.
When I asked for more details she wrote:
The show is meant to go into the homes of preppers, document their life, etc. It is a character profile, not so much a documentary on the movement itself.
Individuals must be comfortable having a television crew in their home and their face on television, but they will not reveal your name or the city/town in which you live if that concerns you.
You can contact Jessica by email here: jessicas[@]sharpentertainment.com. She can also be reached by phone. Contact me if you want her phone number. I was interested in taking part when I thought the series would be more of a documentary about the prepper movement and less about profiling preppers, but that’s not the case. I won’t be taking part, but I’d be curious to hear from any readers that take her up on the offer. Someone should do it. Help spread the prepper word.
Fundraiser for Someone in Need
Someone asked me to mention this site: Help Steve and Nikki. The couple needs help covering medical costs associated with a motorcycle accident. I normally would be reluctant to post something like this, because 1) once you do it for one person everyone might start asking, and 2) I have no way to independently verify that it’s fully legitimate. I’m making an exception in this case, because 1) this is the first time someone has asked me to post such a request, 2) as near as I can tell it’s legit, and 3) it’s Christmas season, so I’m feeling the spirit.
‘Tis the season and a lot of families are in need. I’d suggest everyone try to give something to those less fortunate. It’s a personal call as to whether you should give to this couple, some other family, or some organization. If nothing else, this request helps remind us to count our own blessings.
Updated Digital Camouflage Rifle Post
A loyal SHTF Blog reader contacted me to say he followed my advice in the Paint Your Rifle Digital Camouflage and sent pictures of the results on his M4. Go to the hyperlinked post and scroll to the bottom. I updated it with the reader’s photo. It’s wicked sharp lookin’.
AR-15s and AK-47s in the News
Speaking of ARs, regular readers know that once in a blue moon I like to scroll through news related search engine results with the keywords “AR-15” and/or “AK-47” just curious to see the results. Sometimes they’re quite interesting. Unfortunately, most of the news results are not very good. The connection between high-powered, high capacity firearms and drug dealers is a growing and very disturbing trend. Here is a sampling of recent results:
What’s a particularly sad day forMaine, Bushmaster was bought out by a private equity firm and now they’re closing up their shop in Windham, Maine. No longer will the Bushmaster get built in its original home state, Maine. 🙁

A new book is out called The Gun, which covers the history of the AK-47. The book can be found here. The news article is found here.
