SHTF Update

Hey everybody.  I’m afraid I won’t be able to put a blog post out today.  Mrs Jarhead was admitted to the hospital this Sunday evening and I need to take care of her and the kids.

They’re not sure yet what it is, but the leading theory is a tick borne disease.  All I can say is she’s been in tremendous pain and thanks to some good medication is now sleeping comfortably.

Since this is a prepper blog it might be wise to note that if something like this happened when you didn’t have access to a medical facility, it would be a good idea to have some serious pain killer on hand.  My understanding is that if this is tick borne the idea is to hit it with some antibiotics, something else that might be good to have stashed away.

I’m so sorry to hear that she’s not feeling well. I hope she feels better soon!

  • Roseman June 29, 2014, 7:04 pm

    Hope all turns out well.
Antibiotics are very important to have in stock. If your medical professional will not help you, purchase fish antibiotics before the government shuts off that supply line.

Sorry to hear that…I had Rocky mountain spotted fever a couple of years ago. The Headaches and joint pain was excruciating. However after some doxycycline and pain meds for a few days I was feeling much better !

    get well soon, Mrs Jarhead.

The patriot should have five different antibiotics in his kit. Here are five: penicillin, erythromycin, doxycycline, cipro and sulfsoxazole. Buy all you can afford.

Most of y’all probably don’t know that you can be arrested for possession of a controlled substance in most states for having ANY drug in an “unlabeled or mislabeled container” or for keeping Rx narcotics past there “trash by” date. In many states and the federal system , “misusing” things like fish mox is a FELONY. INTENT to distribute (even something that is otherwise legal) is also a felony. Something to think on the next time y’all want to “talk drugs” (In some states just TALKING about “off grid” drug use is felony intent)

    • Fishmox June 30, 2014, 1:57 pm

Everything is illegal in Amerika, Ray. Why are you posting this stuff? You a .gov pro? You can be arrested, don’t ya know? Don’t give your fish the mox, they’ll die and that’s illegal.

      • Ray June 30, 2014, 2:21 pm

No Fishmox. Dying is perfectly legal , you just have to do the paperwork and report everything to the proper authority. My reason for the post was simple; in many states discussing your “drug stash”(EVEN A LEGAL ONE) on the internet is enough for the DA to get a warrant and send SWAT to your house. Discussing “getting around federal laws” is RICO.(even EPA rules) That means the feds have grounds for asset forfeiture, and as they really HATE “preppers” right now— so…..Maybe time for some well placed OPPSEC?

I for one am glad for your perspective, Ray.
(even on the rare occasion where I might disagree)
thanks for the timely reminder about the drug law.

Praying for complete recovery. Events like this remind us all that we are fraigle creatures in a very imperfect world. There are many things stacked against those of us who are attempting to be prepared and prudent. I think many of us feel in our spirits that time to be ready is getting short and much more difficult. Press on. Keep covering the basics and then expand as you are able. Learn every alternative for self reliance that you are able. Practise what you learn. Cut out bad habits. Focus. And if and when are faced with what we consider unthinkable then be ready to assist those who are in need. Prayers for health, safety , and peace to all.

  • Pineslayer June 30, 2014, 11:06 am

Best wishes for a speedy recovery. By default you have made a post anyway. I have been buying Med books for ‘The Reset’ and we are planting perennials that serve many purposes.

  • MtWoman June 30, 2014, 11:13 am

So sorry to hear this! Plz keep us updated as you can. And YES, definitely something to consider in a SHTF scenario.

And to “Ray”: Who says the meds aren’t prescribed? You’re jumping to conclusions, and being very negative when someone is in need of support. Chill, man.

  • Jarhead Survivor June 30, 2014, 11:18 am

Thanks for the well wishes, everybody. They are well received and appreciated.

The docs are 90% sure she has viral meningitis at this point and she’ll be spending another night or three in the hospital until they know for sure and can get her pain under control.

  • MtWoman June 30, 2014, 11:22 am

Jarhead…get yourself and kids checked out….viral men is contagious.
Take care… keeping you and your family in my thoughts.

    • Jarhead Survivor June 30, 2014, 11:37 am

I’ll talk with the doctor about it. He seems to think this might have come from a mosquito or tick, but I’ll definitely ask.

      • MtWoman June 30, 2014, 11:47 am

Here’s what the CDC says; I looked it up after seeing your post, so I could know what it was. Some good info here.

And I’m sure you’d do this, but make sure the docs have eliminated all other possibilities. Lately, I’ve noticed that the docs I’ve been to…and the ones my mother and father have gone to…seem to be reaching a decision without thorough testing for all possibilities. insect borne diseases can mimic each other, and treatments are different in many cases.

You all will be in my thoughts.

Best wishes to your family and Mrs. JH! I know 3 people who contracted Lime disease with no overt signs. All recovered with no after effects. I will send positive vibes upward for you all.

  • Nate6022 June 30, 2014, 8:11 pm

Praying now for you and your family, Jarhead.
    Get well soon, Mrs. JH!

I use to use the seasons as an quick access from plain antibiotics to advanced broadspectrum antibiotics and antivirals that you can sustein in a normal fridge. Ofcource medschool helped, if you’re not an aspiring MD. I strongly recomend medscape for Android or iOS. Also rangerschool helped. :)

  • Wild Weasel July 1, 2014, 12:31 am

Praying for a quick recovery, I had spotted tick fever 15 or so years ago and know how bad it can be. Meds are the key and not trying to do to much until you truly can get back on two feet. You guys hang in there.

  • janie July 1, 2014, 2:27 am

so sorry about the mrs. I have lupus and raynauds make sure the docs do a ANA test that’s anti nuclear antibody test. it will show lyme disease, lupus, any arthritis like rheu. and can show them a trigger to look for ms. all these have sister symptoms and with the tick as a suspect I sure hope she does well. go to WebMD, and the national institute of health, and I forget but the one the president goes to. anyway look for lots of fatigue. god speed friend. its 2:30 am and it is a bad lupus night. oh I really like your site. will visit again. janie

Wow JH, what a bummer. I hope your bride gets well soon!

  • Coastie Sue Weston July 2, 2014, 11:52 pm

Extremely sorry to hear about your wife. I had a prior experience with meningitis while at Coast Guard training, and it was very debilitating. Ray, I was reading many of the comments about traditional medicine/prescribed/not prescribed, etc, and there is a safer, faster, less expensive, and no legal issues alternative. I’ve been using Essential Oils for therapeutic and medicinal purposes since I’m very sensitive to traditional medicine, and sadly, not all antibiotics will kill viruses. I thought you and your audience might like to read what types of Essential Oils can be used for health issues. I’ve included a link to viral infections, and copied below some of the oils used. If you would like to try a sample size of these oils, I would be more than happy to send you out some. If your wife is not allergic to aspirin, then I will also send some Deep Blue Rub, as this lotion works incredibly well on pain. I was able to drive 3000 miles home in terrible driving conditions after injuring my driving hand, only, because I was using the Deep Blue. I will be traveling the U.S. from Aug-Nov, and teaching free educational classes on these oils; along with my Deep Blue Rub.

ANTIVIRAL: Basil, Breathe, Cassia, ClearSkin, Cinnamon, Clove, Eucalyptus, Frankincense, Helichrysum, Lemon, Lemongrass, Marjoram, Melaleuca, Melissa, Myrrh, On Guard, Oregano, Thyme

    Praying she continues to improve.
