The blog rebuild saga continues!
There have been a hardcore few of you that have been following my new posts coming, recent posts lost, domain transfer trouble, blog rebuild insanity, SHTFblog Ranger Man return drama unfold.
I had particular trouble transferring the RSS field. During my absence I gave the domain to a friend to add under his hosting account. He got a little spare change a week from Adsense revenue and I didn’t have to pay for domain hosting anymore. When I started writing posts again, email subscription updates were kicking out with some of his site’s info. Needless to say, he was NOT impressed (sorry, dude). I hope that is now corrected or he might ban me from his account altogether.
The site is FINALLY functioning sorta okay, but not 100% clean (sorta dirty), and the host service has been …. shall we say …. “unimpressive.” I’m done with these slackers, switching to a new host company … which kinda sucks, it’s more “technical” work, database imports, domain transfer codes, .php, .sql …. “stuff.” It wouldn’t be bad for someone that does this “stuff” everyday, but I have to learn it as I go.
I could “theoretically” pay someone to do the work for me, right over the internet, but …. no. Who has little stacks of cash sitting around in this economy? Not me. Besides, diving into it means I have to learn it, which means I can better maintain it over time. It’s a pain in the butt, but … what else am I going to do? Watch the Biggest Loser? I don’t think so.
I’ll start writing blog posts soon, because ever since contemplating my TEOTWAWKI return I’ve been thinking SHTF again, starting to get backed up on blog post ideas in my noggin’, so I gotta put SHTF words to screen.
But, I have more blog “behind the scenes” technical crap to do; so it won’t be full on doomsday writing just yet.
I welcome thoughts on the modified website design. White background and black text rather than the old white text on black background? I was thinking about changing the header up some, but … I don’t know, it’s not bad like it is – thoughts? I might swap out the gas mask guy and insert something there, something a little less scary looking …. not that a nuke going off isn’t scary. SHTFblog design thoughts, comments AND concerns are welcome.
All of that being said …. what have YOU SHTFblog followers been up to over the last …. year and a half? Long time no write. Anyone reading this post is SHTFblog old school!

The white background doesn’t look bad and is easier to read.
If you need a great tech guy. I can HIGHLY recommend this one:

He has done a FANTASTIC job on my website:
http://www.tractorfarmandfamily.com/
Give him a call or email and tell him I recommended you.
You are welcome to post on my website until you get your blog up and ready to roll.
Thanks TFF. I do have someone willing to help me, but I try not to bother her unless it’s something I can’t figure out myself. The design stuff I’ve actually become fairly decent at. It’s the back end, database stuff that tends to give me trouble.
preparing..NEVER ready,,and it’s getting deeper..gulf is interesting, eh?
If you’re still preparing you must be more ready than you were 1.5 years ago.
standard response to the question,,are you ready?…i don’t believe anyone ever is truly ready…ymmv
Why are you killing yerself with the site?
Just use Blogger and be done with it.
Yes I am still getting your feeds through Email, where the hell have you been and what else are you doing?
No, I am not much better prepared than a year and a half ago, just when I get ahead, I end up going two steps back and using my preps. My garden isn’t shit this year because it was a mud hole all the way through June.
Don’t get me wrong, I am used to adversity and I adapt quickly.
I just don’t have an unlimited income or a concrete bunker out in the boonies loaded with the contents of two Wall Mart stores.
That doesn’t mean I am not paying attention to what is going on and continuing to prepare myself for TSHTF, I am still kicking, that means I am still trying.
I am looking forward to your return to the net.
A fair question, Bustednuckles (just use Blogger), but I don’t use Blogger for a few reasons: 1) if I’m going to spend a lot of time and energy into a blog, I want to know I own the site, not Google (who owns Blogger), and 2) there’s a lot more control one can have with Wordpress than with Blogger. Not wanting to use Blogger (though it would be easier) is consistent with my self-reliance, independent streak.
It’s tough trying to get ahead in this economy, let alone trying to improve preparedness. My garden had a rough start, too. More on that later.
Ranger Man,
Great news that your back ! ps–I like the page’s background also.
Glad to see you’re making a return to us. You have been missed!
welcome back to the land of the living.
it’s nothing personal. i haven’t been reading your blog lately. (i guess it would have helped if you had been posting new entries once in a while) bloggers often just stop writing, no good-bye. no response when you send them a comment…
the blog just sits there as if he or she had suddenly died. also, there are hundreds of other survivalist oriented sites… i can’t keep track of you all. (i’m trying to have a life outside of survivalism too)
by the way, your blog looked just fine in night-vision style. content is what matters, and it is unlikely that you can ever please everybody.
yes, have been receiving mail from yourself as well as replies,,…
RM,
I have to tell you that I am elated you are back. If I mis-spell…its because I have 5 Guinness’ in me already. Or I just cant spell. Anyway, THRILLED you are back! I knew you were going and hoped the posts would continue in traditional Ranger Man fashion but they didnt. They were rare and lacked the substance you put in yours. Not knocking anyone, this isnt easy stuff to keep up with. Lots of reading and research to keep on top of the latest and worstest. I have transformed my business more in to an arms business than anything else. Large amounts of arms, big and small. Tanks, fighter jets, 25,000 AK’s, 4 million rounds of ammo…the usual stuff.
All government (not U.S. too much) sales. It keeps me busy, but I am writing a book as we speak. Yep, its a survival book. But not just any survival book, its how to survive ANYTHING! Plane crashes, floods, hurricanes, riots, kidnappings, armed robbery, etc. Short term and long term will be covered as well as some of my dirty tricks for getting out tight spots like shooting techniques, home fortification, improvised explosives and weapons, evasive driving and of course some nasty fist-to-cuff blows sure to stop anyone.
It will probably be a banned book before long but hey, you gotta try right? As you may remember some of my “tricks” you removed because they were a bit too graphic and nasty even for SHTF bloggers. Lets hope the Feds dont kick my door in after goes to press. I wont let all of my secrets out or I would be a sitting duck. If some nut case got ahold of all of them…we would have some serious trouble so Im keeping a lot to myself. Should take me just about…forever to get it to print, if I can find a publisher. I have my work cut out. Its intended for upstanding citizens but im sure it will fall in to the hands of a moron who will leave me no choice but to take him out and pry my book from his cold, dead hands.
Great to have you back. The world has gone to hell in a handbasket since you’ve been away
Ranger Man,
Though I was not a subscriber back when you fell off of the radar, I would like to welcome you back all the same. As a new subscriber (still learning my way around the Ranger Man neighborhood), I wanted to add something here. A year and a half ago, I may not have subscribed to your (or any other subject related) blog. Thats a long story but it has to do with who I am, what I have done, what I do and my past loyalties, etc. As the state of the Union deteriorates, I find myself in a total transformation with respect to how I view the future and preparing myself and my family for a SHTF reality. And so…… one of my thousands of internet searches (as I prepare) brought me to your blog and I want to say…. Airborne!!!!!!! I am now locked in and a bigtime fan brother. Your site is a source of logic in a worsening chaotic world and… I thank yo.
Now… though I did not o
know of you a year and a half ago, I will nevertheless update you, as I am both excited and want to share as a possible source of inspiration to others in a similar situation.
Not having a ton of money to prepare, but seeing things for what they are, in terms of how bad things will soon be… I began searching for a way to get a BugOut property in spite of my low budget. Well… long story short, within the past three months, my wife and I searched for and found a 12 acre, mountain property with a spring fed well, a creek, two bedroom cabin with kitchen, living room, etc How cool is that? We have been stocking it up with food, ammo, med supplies, etc, for a month now and brother…. I can’t describe the feeling of control and comfort this has brought us. How did we do it? We borrowed from my 401K for the down and the seller financed the rest. Total cost? $80,000. At $400 per month, this is bigtime doable!!
I encourage your readers… those who feel trapped in the suburbs or worse… the city…. explore your options and look at property for sale in the rural parts of your state. In Virginia and West Virginia, an internet search will show you that they are almost giving land away.
Anyway… welcome back Ranger Man and thanks for letting me rant.
Stay Alert!
Stay Alive!
Great story, Airborne80. Thanks for the note, welcome to the site and keep us updated on your preps.
