Changes at SHTF Blog

Hey Ya’ll,

Today’s post is about change.  Over the last year I’ve been wanting to take SHTF Blog to the next level, but alas, I simply don’t have the time the blog needs to do this.  Young kids and a full time job eat up most of my “spare” time and writing blog posts takes up the rest.

Recently I was talking with Joel Forge at Forge Solutions and we struck a deal.  He buys SHTF Blog from me and does the boring, back end drudge work of getting the site up to snuff and I get to keep writing.

What does that mean for your favorite Jarhead, Road Warrior, and Calamity Jane?  Well, nothing really.  I’m staying on as manager and they’re getting more money to write posts.  The same great crew writing the same great posts!  Plus I’ll be able to do more gear reviews.  That’s what I call a win win, folks.

Fear not!  I wouldn’t sell to anybody who’s not interested in putting the prepping message out there.  I’ve talked with Joel at length and he’s a straight up guy, not to mention a real go-getter.

What’s our goal?  World domination of course!  We want to be the best prepping blog out there and with Joel’s guidance and dedication I think we can accomplish exactly that.  With his knowledge and skill of getting web sites and blogs into the public eye we’ll be able to reach a larger audience.

Here’s a press release going out today:

Black Hawk, CO – Privately held Forge Solutions announced today that it has acquired from its current owner, R. Augustine. was founded in 2007 by a person using the pen name “Rangerman” and grew a sizable internet following in the preparedness and survival world.  Rangerman has since left the site, which was sold to R. Augustine in 2013. receives several thousand unique  visitors to the site a day and has over 1200 original posts on various  preparedness topics.  The integration of is estimated to  take several months.

About Forge Solutions, LLC – Founded in 2007, Forge Solutions, formerly known as Qaletaqa Corps, is a global U.S. Government services provider, offering innovative solutions and relentless performance.   Forge Solutions also assists the general public and government agencies with emergency preparedness and asset protection.  Forge Solutions operates,, and soon to be launched, and

R. Augustine is me, by the way.  R stands for Robert in case you’re wondering.  I feel like the mask has been pulled off the Lone Ranger!    But don’t worry, Jarhead Survivor will be around for a long time to come.

Stay tuned for more updates as warranted and keep enjoying the posts we put out there for you.

congrats on the “win-win” Bob… er, I mean “Jarhead”.
(although, I thought SHTFBlog was just fine at the level it was)

I guess all good things must end. I think the advertising and propaganda that comes with corp. owners is too much for me. Good by and Good luck.

  • Road Warrior May 19, 2014, 10:16 am

Robert, huh? You always told me your name was Horatio!

    • Jarhead Survivor May 20, 2014, 8:13 am

Ha! Ok wise guy. You can still call me Mr. Jarhead.

Thanks! We’re looking forward to working with Joel and the other guys.

Wow! At least give it a try for a month or two and see what you think.

Can’t wait. Sounds like good news for you guys. Thanks for all of your hard work. Been a long time fan of the site.

Appreciate the SC Survivor. Glad to see you’ll be sticking around! Thanks for reading.

any business will take on a life of its own. the time to sell it is when someone wants to buy it! you’re still stuck with my comments, as long as I have something to say.
(better tighten up the SPAM filter, Joel)

full disclosure is the best policy, and I’m glad you’ll have more time for your family. (the kids will only be little for an instant)
preparedness will never be a turn-key, off the shelf commodity.
Survival Cache can only advertize stuff to make it easier. (and time is short)

Thanks Irish. Spending time with the little ones is important. Seems like my little guy was born yesterday and we just celebrated his fifth birthday this month!

Strange comments coming from some audience members stating that they are leaving the blog. The writing crew remains the same, which is the backbone of the blog. It is a wise idea to delegate the backend support to someone who likes doing it & stick with what you like – writing.

Seems rather silly that people would make assumptions like this without at least seeing how things shape up. Oh well, good luck to them in finding a better site.

    • irishdutchuncle May 20, 2014, 12:36 am

people with their own sites read this one. that’s saying something…

    • Jarhead Survivor May 20, 2014, 8:06 am

Thanks Jason. That’s what I’m saying!

I’ll keep on reading – hope the sale works well and everyone is happy with the result.

  • Pineslayer May 20, 2014, 10:44 am

Well I’m not going to gripe, about this :)
More time to write and spend with the kids is a great thing.
The Forge guys are right down the road from me, so it will be interesting to see what they have planned. I subscribe to their site already.

While I can understand any person’s aversion to corporations, to jump ship without seeing what, if any, changes are made is small minded (not like-minded). Count me in Jarhead. I’ll hang with you all at this awesome site. I have gleaned a lot of good information from all of you. Thanks to all of you and let’s all hope for a better tomorrow.

  • TWP May 20, 2014, 1:24 pm

Sold out to a corporation? Not my kind of people…

  • Pineslayer May 20, 2014, 2:46 pm

I had to go back and read the post to see if I missed something with the bah-humbug replies. What do people think is going to happen? Is Forge aligned with Dick Cheney or Putin?

    • NoSox May 20, 2014, 5:03 pm

That’s what i’m saying! They act like the blog was sold to a govt agency or something. lol

  • NoSox May 20, 2014, 5:02 pm

People make it seem like the ‘Corporation’ is some evil organism that distorts all things holy and prepper. Heck i have my own corporation and i’m just ONE person with a website so don’t get caught up in the ‘Corporation’ hoopla.

Considering that the SAME people who were writing before will keep writing i don’t see the big deal. But CONGRATS on the deal and having more time for family is a great thing. This will continue to be the first thing i check each morning when i log on to my computer. You always see who the real supporters are when things get shaken up a bit…..

not being “incorporated” is plain foolish today.
(if you are conducting any kind of business)

  • Road Warrior May 21, 2014, 4:32 am

I know I’m pretty excited about things. More/better gear to review, and more time to research, get in-depth, and write better-quality posts with more info for you. And as far as the “oh, no! Corporations!” people go, #1: it’s going to take a bit of time to integrate with our new parent company. #2: It’s still all the same content by the same writers, but with more “meat”, if you will. (the content, not the writers, hopefully.) #3: we’re able to have a hand in how the blog is presented, so it will keep the same practical, useful now AND later vibe that we’ve worked hard to build and keep. I wouldn’t get worked up without seeing what happens first..nothing like being reactionary…

    • irishdutchuncle May 21, 2014, 4:53 am

might we see some guest posting from other divisions of the company? maybe you will be able to mine their other blogs for content suggestions.
(on “those” days when you need an idea… )

… and another thing, it’s almost 05:00, don’t you ever sleep RW?

      • Jarhead Survivor May 21, 2014, 12:53 pm

Hey Irish – you might be seeing all the above. They have a team of talented writers over there and I’m looking forward to do some cross posting with them.

        • irishdutchuncle May 21, 2014, 2:57 pm

I’m a little intimidated by the registration procedure for comments, but their content looks fairly good so far. I went to read-up some more “ABOUT” information,
(“armageddon outfitters”) but the first site I visited had cookies. a little more background knowledge about them would be helpful for me…
