Just a quick update for all you space and science junkies out there (like myself.)
A powerful solar flare might hit the Earth tomorrow (nope, not a TEOTWAWKI event) and it may give us a nice light show in the form of the Aurora Borealis. Read the story on Wired Science.
If any of you northern preppers see it I’d love to hear about it. The absolute best viewing I ever had was in Norway back in the winter of ’83 or ’84. It was absolutely stunning!

I would love to see the Northern Lights, I’ll bet it is awesome. How does it last – is it for a few minutes or what?
Depends on the size of the solar flare. The one I saw in Norway was an all-nighter.
I saw them here in Maine once about ten years ago and while they weren’t quite as good as what I saw in Norway it was still pretty amazing.
Are they predictable? I wouldn’t want to travel a long way for nothing.
I don’t *think* so. They can tell when it’s going to arrive, but I don’t think they can forecast what area it will affect.
I heard on the radio that due to a nearly full moon, we probably won’t be able to see much effect from the recent solar flare.
